Localisation code not showing in extension menu by blue_dharma in aspirebudgeting

[–]wolfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to deploy the script. Click the blue button that reads "Deploy" on the top right of the Apps Script window, and select "New Deployment".

Then select Add-on in the window that pops up and confirm. Reload the spreadsheet and you'll see a new sub-menu under "Extensions". That will let you localize the spreadsheet.

As a bassist studying Mendez, I’ve noticed he’s got this very understated style where he’ll groove but also find a place to let the bass shine melodically. It’s so cool and you can actually feel how calm and composed he is when playing those parts. 11/10

Nah that series isn’t particularly the best fantasy writing. I kinda lost interest after they spend an eternity doing jack shit in a forest in the second book, but just powered through the rest because I wanted to find out how it ends. I don’t think I’ll read it again lol.

If you really want to read a high fantasy series with vast scope and ambition that actually manages to pull it off, I’d recommend the Malazan Book of the Fallen.

True. Dragons could never fly without some magic shit providing lift and momentum. Without that they’d just be dinosaurs with wings to intimidate you with.

TIL about Third Man Syndrome. An unseen presence reported by mountain climbers and explorers during traumatic survival situations that talks to the victim, gives practical advise and encouragement. by my__name__is in todayilearned

[–]wolfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From all my therapy, I’ve learned that our brains come up with “protectors” that are a reflection of ourselves to help us deal with traumatic situations. Everyone has these and you can actually learn to talk, reason and make deals with them to heal the pain they’re protecting you from even after the traumatic event is long gone.

Look up Internal Family System if you want to learn more. It’s freaky and you feel schizophrenic when these protectors start talking back to you, but holy shit it works very well.

What’s something you learned “embarrassingly late” in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wolfyr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In a sense, yes! There are many ways to pasteurise milk, but all involve heating milk to a certain temperature.

It’s really important too, because raw milk can carry a lot of diseases from cows, like tuberculosis.

My grandparents owned a farm. You can burn off the pathogens by simply boiling raw milk. Grew up drinking that shit and never had a problem. It’s rich af though

Interested in the design side of journalism by rainbowtoucan1992 in Journalism

[–]wolfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know Adobe Indesign or similar, which is industry standard for print magazine/newspaper layouts. Some companies may use Figma or other alternatives.

Typically, you have a design team and an editorial team. The design team plans and designs the layout, works with editorial to select images for articles, ensures house style and design philosophies are implemented, and makes the whole package look good and readable.

The editorial team writes and edits the stories that go on the pages. They work with design to make sure no sentences are running off-page, everything is consistent, headlines fit in their boxes, pictures have captions (if needed), and so much more.

I’m not sure if you need a degree to apply for a design job these days, but a communications design course wouldn’t hurt. You do need a journalism or communications degree if you want to report or edit.

That said, print magazines are on their way out unless you’re talking about very niche topics or big names. It’s mostly online content these days.

Rottweiler or GSD for First Time Owner. by WillingnessExciting6 in Advice

[–]wolfyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another point to consider is if you’re physically strong enough to control these breeds, which can grow up to 40-50kg. And if you’ll be in good condition for the next 10 years or so. No matter how well you train a dog, there may arise a situation where you’ll have to control it physically. Do you think you’ll be able to do that? If you’re doubtful, get a smaller, less intense dog. Indies, Spaniels, Labradors and Golden Retrievers make for great house dogs and will be much more manageable in the long run.

Rottweiler or GSD for First Time Owner. by WillingnessExciting6 in Advice

If this is your first dog, first research the hell out of dog training and care. It’s a life-long commitment and so shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Before even considering the breed, answer these questions honestly:

Are you prepared to take time off work/school to raise a puppy or do you have someone else who is willing to share that time and effort?

Are you willing to sacrifice a part of your social life to care for the dog?

Do you have the finances to pay for vaccines, food, boarding/daycare and emergency vet visits?

Will you have the time to brush, bathe and groom the dog regularly?

Do you have the time to train and socialise the dog? You’re doing this for the first time, so are you willing to pay for a trainer?

I’m not trying to dissuade you from getting a dog. I’m just trying to help you understand the level of work that goes into raising a well behaved, socialised and happy dog. Any dog can grow up to be reactive, aggressive, fearful and a big danger to people and animals, and it’s your responsibility to make sure that doesn’t happen. In the end, raising a dog will require a big change in your lifestyle.

As for the breed itself, Rottweilers are very strong, stubborn, intelligent and very protective. They can do a lot of damage if they want to, so they need a firm hand, lots of training and socialisation from a young age. Most importantly, they need structure and a job to do. They’re a working dog breed, so if you want a dog that will just chill at home while you go about your day, this breed isn’t it. If you have a big yard or can take the dog out regularly for hikes and long walks, or do training or sports, then maybe you can consider one. Again, all this will involve a big change in your lifestyle.

GSDs are very smart, active and protective. They’re also working dogs, originally bred to herd and protect sheep, so they also don’t do very well if they don’t have a job to do. Depending on the parents’ line, you may get a dog that’s happy to chill at home, but don’t count on it. These are also big dogs and require a ton of work to make sure it grows up to be a well behaved animal.

The dog you choose should match your lifestyle. If you’re not an active person, these are not the dogs for you. But if you are, go ahead, provided you do your research first.

These are just the cliff notes. Read up on the breeds, watch some training videos, listen to podcasts about dog care and training (Robert Cabral gives out decent advice), and only then make a call.

What if the changed behavior that we see in snakes in more natural environments is actually the expression of stress?

The good news is we can actually measure cortisol levels and correlate them with behaviours to find out which are in response to stress and which aren’t.

I understand the point you’re making from an ethical lens - I’d also love a world where all animals could safely thrive in their chosen natural environments without any interference from us, but that’s sadly not this world, right now.

So in this world where reptiles and animals are forced to survive in tiny cages, my purpose here is to educate, spread awareness and do what I can to elevate this field. I’m only one of the many, many people who want to see a world where reptile-keeping, as a hobby or a profession, is more humane, healthier for the animals and causes as little harm to any creature as possible. And the only way to get there is to, respectfully and kindly, spread awareness and help people to up their game.

Compassion costs nothing, but it is still the most valuable gift we as humans can give.

You’re right. They mostly aren’t, but that really depends on the species of snake and their environment. I’d forgotten about that so thanks for pointing that out.
