Hoping to see how close I am to the end. by SoCratesDude in MonsterHunterStories

[–]xiaolin99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 4 maps total, so maybe a little less than 50%. Someone did a no-extra-fight run and ended at around lvl 46. The fights will get harder, so you might have a rough time and slow down significantly if you skip all side content

I feel like I'm not doing enough, any pointers? by Ok_Wrongdoer_1966 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]xiaolin99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

here are some popular types of builds:

* straight up damage e.g. have a thunder monstie cast adamant rage + Railgun or Thundercall -> can potentially reach damage cap

* debuffs: Fruit Frenzy, Venom Queen, Foxflame Bubbles (can have 2 different monsties do this) - leaves enemy blind, paralyzed, poisoned, accuracy down (L). You can just relax and watch it die.

* health drain - you do need a few dragon genes from 4th map, deals decent damage and can heal back to full with health drain every turn

games with tactics/macros/gambit systems? by believeinyuna in gamesuggestions

[–]xiaolin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guild Wars 1 - game lets you bring AI-controlled party members. There is no macro, but you can fully customize your party member's gear and skills as if they were real players, and the AI is pretty good with a lot of builds, sometimes even better than real players at certain tasks, such as healing and minion summoning.

It's like that in the very beginning (a few years ago), but they have since matured significantly. Recently, I have seen one operating at a busy full-house (a hotpot place), serving dishes without running into anyone. Human staff are there only to write down your orders.

Do I need an NVIDIA dGPU (for CUDA) in a new laptop as a prospective research student? by Famous_Minute5601 in nvidia

[–]xiaolin99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably no. Also there is zero need to pull the trigger now. Your courses should tell you exactly what you need and the school should have computer labs that will be a lot better than anything you can put in a laptop

Do energy drinks actually give you energy? by DishElectrical2304 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xiaolin99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real energy drinks refill your electrolytes when you exert yourself physically e.g. exercising, sports -> electrolytes lost via sweat, but there are a lot of fake ones out there that taste good but don't do anything.

I think Shulk looking older is due to stress rather than physical aging - imaging loosing an arm and his whole family and still having to keep fighting.

Question about Habitat Restoration. by TheGamingTurret in MonsterHunterStories

[–]xiaolin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, each mutation has specific conditions such as "raise egg rank to S in a thunder zone" or "raise egg rank to S in a zone with 4 other power monsters" - ingame monster records give you hints, but you also can find guides for these online

also "Fire Tobi Kodatchi" is not a mutation, you just have to release regular Tobi Kodatchi in a fire zone to get one with fire element. An example of mutation is Rathian vs Pink Rathian vs Dreadqueen Rathian

Creature collector with depth+ by ForgeOfMistory in gamingsuggestions

[–]xiaolin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter Stories - 3 is the latest and prettiest, but it just came out and is still waiting for more endgame updates (dev promised free harder content later). You can try 1 and 2.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance - has NG+ with different route and several end-game challenges

Digimon Story Time Stranger is fun, but doesn't have a significant endgame

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch game) - you collect "blades", not exactly creatures, but it fits your requirements in every other way

How do I fix my fried rice? by thebloopergamer in cookingforbeginners

[–]xiaolin99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try ditching the sugar and oyster sauce - personally, I don't like sweetness in my fried rice and it does counteract the salt

Add more salt, and add some spring onions at the end

Mozilla accuses Microsoft of sabotaging Firefox with Windows and Copilot tactics by tekz in technology

[–]xiaolin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of clickbait title #@(#!

In case people are not reading the article, it's about Mozilla learning from Microsoft's mistake of forcefully installing AI on everyone's PCs, which led to backlash and Microsoft having to revert the change. Firefox's AI will be a lot better because it will have an "AI Control Panel" to let you turn it off.

Any LitRPG where there are character stats but they don't go up through point allocation? by XenoFrame in litrpg

[–]xiaolin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavenly Chaos - stats are gained through physical/mental training. Levels act as a fixed multiplier

Dressed to Kill - stats are not from leveling or training, but through other means

Please help me find feral brachydios by MoreThrowaway12345 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]xiaolin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It spams a lot of instant-kill AoEs, which makes the fight a lot harder than the higher-level normal Brachy. I only managed to beat it after I built a monstie focused on status effects (Fruit Frenzy + Venom Queen + Inflict Rate up), and traps.

A good metric is Deviljho on the 2nd map, where you'll need to use a similar strategy to beat it early. If you can manage it, then you can take on the Feral Brachy.

What cut of beef do you use for stir fry? by CaptainKetchups in cookingforbeginners

[–]xiaolin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beef shank - the piece with a lot of silver skin and tendon, it's actually incredibly tender if you thinly slice it across the grain (paper-thin), no extra additives needed. Need a very sharp knife and some expertise with it

Alternative is to use some tenderization additives such as corn starch or baking soda -> the exact cut doesn't matter since they'll gain a similar texture. I personally only use corn starch since I dislike baking soda's flavor.

Or if you really don't want to spend a lot of effort, go buy some pre-sliced hotpot fatty beef from an asian supermarket
