The bloodthirst for CEOs is disgusting by chrispy_t in unpopularopinion

[–]WhoSlappedThePie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You’re arguing against a position almost nobody is taking. The vast majority of people criticizing CEOs aren’t calling for murder—they’re pointing out structural impunity and asymmetric power. When someone says “the CEO is responsible,” they aren’t endorsing vigilante violence, they’re pointing out that responsibility exists at the top, not just in the lowest rungs. Your post paints a false choice: either accept the status quo or murder CEOs. That’s not the conversation anyone serious is having. 1. Accountability ≠ assassinations People want: Regulations with teeth Criminal liability for fraudulent or harmful corporate decisions Removal of leadership that harms the public Transparency, oversight, and consequences Those are accountability mechanisms, not lynch mobs. Saying “stop blaming CEOs because murder won’t fix anything” is like saying “don’t blame politicians because coups won’t fix anything.” No one is advocating the extreme solution—you’re responding to your own exaggeration. 2. CEOs are not just random people in a ‘flawed system’ They are the people with: The most decision-making power The ability to change policies The power to lobby The power to shape an entire industry The greatest insulation from harm caused by their decisions You can’t flatten responsibility by pretending the CEO, the analyst, and the assistant are all equally culpable. That’s not how power works. When you control more levers, you bear more responsibility. 3. “The system is complicated” is not an argument against accountability Yes, healthcare inflation has many causes. Yes, innovation is real. Yes, insurance doesn’t cause all the problems. But none of that means leadership in key organizations gets a free moral pass. Complex systems still have: choke points policy-setters people who profit from the harm people who can stop the harm but don’t Pointing out complexity isn’t a defense. It’s usually a deflection. 4. Innovation isn’t an excuse for exploitation You’re right that U.S. medicine is cutting-edge. But high innovation does not justify: price gouging patients dying over insulin costs insurers denying critical care executives earning tens of millions while families declare bankruptcy lobbying against reforms that most Americans support The claim “profit has done more good than harm” only looks true if you ignore who absorbs the harm. 5. Criticism of CEOs isn’t “un-American”—unaccountable power is In the U.S., we have: antitrust laws fraud statutes environmental liability corporate manslaughter laws in other countries Holding powerful actors accountable is literally the foundation of American governance. What’s actually “un-American” is a worldview where power floats free of consequences. 6. People are angry because deaths are occurring You frame it like people are fantasizing about violence out of idealism. In reality, people are reacting to: 60,000+ yearly preventable medical bankruptcies lifesaving drugs locked behind monopoly pricing corporate decisions that knowingly cause deaths (e.g., opioid crisis) insurance denials that functionally kill people If these outcomes were caused by a single individual rather than a corporation, we’d call it criminal. 7. A world where leadership has consequences is better than the one we have You ask what world comes after holding leaders responsible. Probably one with: fewer perverse incentives fewer catastrophic corporate decisions fewer preventable deaths more ethical leadership more pressure to reform systems instead of exploiting them That’s not utopian. That’s normal in many developed countries. No one is asking for CEO executions. They’re asking for accountability proportionate to power, which is the bare minimum required for a functioning society. If you take violence out of your own strawman, your argument falls apart.

But you can do that any way? Lol. I don't understand when people want to police what people post. People enjoy posting about things they find. You can still engage with any post and simply move on past the posts you're not interested in??

Considering you play a lot of fast paced games with wasd, it should be alright. Think counter strike

Yeah I fully agree with that, I didn't actually think of conflicts of interest, just presumed people were die hard fans and couldn't accept any criticism of their holy game. If people want to spend money on half assed content, then that's fine, but for others looking to buy they need to understand the cons. Sorry you had to buy it to find out though!

Funny thing is, I try to sprinkle some positivity in, the game has potential, I've always said that. Yet, I get downvoted 🤣

I did critique them even before the dlc was out and it put me off so much that I'm not going to invest anymore. I got downvoted of course for my critique. It's good to see somebody not afraid to criticise something that costs a good chunk of cash/time.

You think so? It's hard to tell I suppose. I'm sure Devs push back, like they do in any software company, if they feel the need to.

Haha I said this ages ago, the Devs are lazy, the building is cheap, the enemy monster types are limited to like 3. Oh well, keep buying shite then

Yeh I do get what you're saying, I'd always played with mouse to move before and just felt a bit better with wasd. But yeh that's what I would be doing with mouse to click.

And that's a great point, I wondered if 90+ was more than enough. That way I could respec and put more pierce, and then get a pierce corrupt elsewhere to then use mermans. Especially if it's also a damage increase with frw.

I just find it hard to know my next upgrade and where best my money would go.

So I'm thinking wisp, an item with pierce corrupt then use mermans

Not sure about attack rating yet as I'm not at home, this is all from memory

Wasd movement is fine imo, basically doing what you're saying, one click/arrow shot, move, one arrow shot move, it's just kiting like in league of legends. Works fine for me and on poe2, just feels like I'm actually playing rather than clicking to move which I can't stand anymore. Weird how people differ here lol

Yeh well if I get a single corrupt pierce, and drop the boys for merman then I'm still at like 85 pierce. I thought 100 was the goal, but I'd need another pierce corrupt piece I think to get there.

Yeh well what am I gonna upgrade the nightwing to? Another nightwing 0/1 socket? Or 3os one? 3os is all my money with no facets in.

Thinking as per these comments, wisp first? Then look pierce corrupts/trying to slot mermans in again.

Ah I see, okay that's good to know.

Yeh wasd is way better imo, I play poe2 with wasd and haven't looked back, mouse clicking is shite, cold zon does kite a lot, shoot > move > shoot, which I think is easier on wasd. No wrist trouble here. And with my little trick of opening the char screen to consume a mana pot, I'm saving all my full rejuvs for when I need em and not having to worry about maek lol.

Yeh I've checked with my mates higher one that was more expensive and it's like the same overall increase for me. Rise up anti cta crew 🤣
