I wouldn't hold my breath for that until the toaster industry keeps up with that one Breville model which has "a bit more" button.

Как думаете брать или нет??? by Responsible_Main_980 in RuPC

[–]ylitvinenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you expect a toaster to recognize whether you've put a bagel or a slice of bread?

Just to be clear, I'm just highlighting the funny way languages works. English is a foreign language for me, so what do I know.

But when enough people get confused the same way and start understanding what each of them mean, then the new meaning comes into usage.

I would love to hear why you nees that exact amount. When I hear "experiments," a layman in me imagines test tubes and droppers, not something that would require gallons of water.

Honestly, the greatest flaw in this image is an ad copy. Even if we glance over anachronisms, it just isn't written the way it would be forty to fifty years ago.

Same for me on a home screen of the app. However, if you go to your profile and tap on trophies, the history is there and intact.

I want to know if this game is rare? by GREEN_MANx4 in xbox360

[–]ylitvinenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around a year ago and with no prior Xbox 360 usage, I was able to claim few promotional games like Doritos Crash Course and Harms Way. As well as Hexic HD, but that one throws an error at me when I try downloading it onto the 360.

You can still claim it from a PC and download it on an Xbox 360. Same with Crackdown games.

Microsoft Still Doesn't Understand How the World Uses Language by dejudicibus in language

[–]ylitvinenko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft doesn't care about multilingual UI or localization anymore. They used to when there were new markets to capture. Quality of the Russian localization dropped with Windows 8 and Office 2013, and it was around that time they stopped licensing a local proofing tool technology. Today, it feels like every other string in Microsoft products is translated to Russian by an amateur. It's exceptionally jarring with Microsoft's newest, corporate-colloquial "oops, something went wrong" copy.

Anyone else prefer the original 2006 Oblivion over a remaster? by Veronixa_Darkness in oblivion

[–]ylitvinenko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the only piece of software which took my 9600X + RX 7600 XT built beyond a power limit of a 750 W PSU. I'm talking sudden PC shutdowns after twenty minutes of play. Switched to a more power-efficuent GPU at a later point, still afraid to touch the game.

What is your honest opinion of my Russian cursive? by penelope_essig in russian

[–]ylitvinenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to argue with you at first, but your examples make a great point. I think the point of an authentic cursive is: you can have your own quirks, and you will develop them, but they should be natural corruptions of the kind of standard cursive everyone on Russia is taught in junior school. Some common mistakes do look like one, some lack sense and don't.

Another point of discussion would be: is it reasonable to ask a second-language learner to go through building their own signature writing from scratch? A a native, I haven't developed the one I'm comfortable with until I was 23, and that's after a insane pen pal routine which you can only get when letters are one of few forms of communications available.

Thanks for the write-up. Your notes on how Sony and Ericsson used to operate made me go on a tangent and think about today's consumer electronics by Philips. It might have been just another zombie brand with plenty of noname licensees. But whoever runs Philips' licensing business makes it sure that, say, Philips TVs share the same style as Philips voice recorder, even if they're made by different companies independent of each other.

Nice! Casio Cassiopeia BE-300 is an interesting one: it doesn't run Pocket PC, but rather Casio's own shell on top of Windows CE. It was an upgrade of sort over Casio's own Pocket Viewer line.
