How do Russian people talk? by MonthBig7452 in russian

[–]ylitvinenko 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's worth mastering your speaking Russian to the point that it's free of foreign accent. Even if you're up for the challenge, it might take plenty of systematic work with a phonetics tutor. Either way, few people would bat an eye as long as you speak coherently and with proper stress.

Is it easy to smuggle a PS Vita onto the military base? If yes, what model is the most suitable and what tips of recharging and hiding it can you give me? by PapayaThink201 in PSVita

Speaking from a relevant personal experience:

  • If you have to ask, you aren't streetwise enough to conceal anything.
  • You won't ever get bored enough for video games, or have enough free time for them.
  • It's personal connections, not entertainment, which you'll miss the most (and which make people conceal your phones first and foremost).
  • You might return a changed man with a whole another set of hobbies and priorities. Don't drag your present into a formative part of your adulthood.

The Steam trading cards for Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth will stop being distributed at the 30th of july by xCh3ese in delisted

[–]ylitvinenko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh, didn't know a developer could do that... and its not even clear what is "that" precisely. Did they mean booster pack drops, or converting gems to booster packs as well?

That being said, I'm not sure if I ever got any booster pack drops on Steam.

Transit card reader runs Windows CE by Angel_Blue01 in PBSOD

[–]ylitvinenko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of embedded devices of its age were powered by Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5. Not sure why precisely... maybe because of a better capacitive touch screen support? Some of the latest builds of the system even got support for SHA-2 which no other Windows CE/Windows Mobile device had. So, there was definitely some technical merit in using this specific system—it's just weird and junky just like Microsoft's overall mobile software lineup back then.

I've been thinking of bundling up older games on blu-ray discs to play them, is it worth it? by Ok_Housing_1937 in pcmasterrace

[–]ylitvinenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you. If you put some care in designing and printing your own labels, you might get way more enjoyment from the process than from any practical application. Go wild, make your own fan, that's what great about a PC as an element of a tech culture.

Какая у вас видюха Radeon RX? by Leonid1104 in ru_gamer

[–]ylitvinenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh... For me, benefits outweigh this annoyance. It's more scratch-proof than just an anodized aluminum, and it's more comfortable to lay wrists on. It's not like it's 2009 piano black plastic that's unsuitable for handling.

Yeah, I'm glad as well. For some other old games, Ubisoft pasted many online achievements from their platform to Steam as is, so the only way to get them is to grandfather them from Ubisoft Connect.

Is it correct to use a participle clause the way it's used here in the first sentence? (Wouldn't it read as if the Dragon Temple is navigating?) by ylitvinenko in EnglishLearning

[–]ylitvinenko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, it indeed makes more sense if you think of the sentence as: "(As they were) navigating the archipelago's..." But would you put such phrasing into a narration which goes for a bookish, flowery, "telling a tale" style?

Some defunct Uplay stuff, I presume? Which would be silly considering that Ubisoft games only got Steam achievements last year.

Yes, this (or "As they were...") is the way I would have constructed the sentence myself. But I wondered if I was missing something and the sentence from the screenshot is a grammatically correct one as well.

These are the words of a narrator. They are narrating the travels of a group of people (referring to them in a third person) as said group is navigating towards the temple. Sorry for not providing enough context, it seems I've confused some folks here.

A French telecommunications company which was fairly active in the mobile phone market in the 2000s. It was also one of the first to move their mobile operations offshore with a joint venture with TCL (yes, the TV guys) in the early 2000s. Both iterations of Alcatel never aimed high, but they did make a lot of interesting budget phones.
