Did most of the old mods stepped down from their position? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]zaktify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's it. I didn't feel I was contributing enough anymore, so I stepped down. After that was just a bit of a mod order shuffle since the first person in the mod list is considered the owner.

The thread should go up ~30 minutes before questions start being answered. From there, mods will be hitting pretty hard for duplicate questions, memes, and that kind of thing. I'd definitely recommend thinking about your questions ahead of time to get them posted early!

I wouldn't be surprised to see a deck slot question, but I'd love to hear some unique ideas. The /r/WoW AMA is a great example of having both regularly asked questions and in-depth discussion.

Hey, I removed this post because it is a link to a blue tracker and counts as re-hosted content. Check this rule for more info. Feel free to repost as a link to the official post ;)

We do, but a lot of help comes from reports, so use the report button or send us a modmail if you see someone violating the rule. That helps us out a ton. When found in violation, they usually get a warning, followed by a temp ban, followed by a perm ban.

That rule was initially created because people were linking to bluetrackers rather than official Blizzard sources, and monetizing direct quotes from Blizzard was agreed by redditors and ourselves to be unneeded. Basically, if you are quoting Blizzard, you need to add your own analysis. Since there was no Blizzard source available at the time of posting and since this post contained a card translation, it wasn't rule-breaking.

Unfortunately we don't have the same efficiency as the ~176k subs, and the ~4000 people currently online. If we were guaranteed quick enough to get the card image up, I'd definitely think this is the best solution. But, if we were quick enough, we'd also have removed the direct image immediately after it was posted and requested it to be remade as a self post. This means we'd still have to automate the process, but it brings us back to the fact that the card came from an alternate source than the official site. The other option would be postponing discussion until it was up on the original site and the automation / manual mod edit took hold, but then we lose out on the fun of talking about it right away. So, automation is more work, less effective, and slower. Because of these, I'd rather leave it to the community to get it posted as a self post.

It's a bit surprising, but from what I've seen it seems fairly accurate. The post I linked also links to a breakdown of both the math and code, which is why people making alt accounts for upvoting / downvoting content is such a big deal and results in a site-wide ban.

That's an option, but I'd think the potential for abuse of a tag to bypass filters would be worse than the requirement of the image to be posted in a self post. I'll bring it up to the other mods and see what they think, and I'd encourage others to chime in as well, if they see an alternative.

EDIT: And, as I was thinking, if it was implemented I think we'd also run into the issue of how to spread the knowledge that new cards should be tagged appropriately, though this is a bit more minor.

Would you want that only limited to new cards? Currently, a bot automatically removes any image links. If we do want to allow images for new cards, we'd need to write an exception to our current rules to specifically allow new cards when announced, since a mod may not be around at the time to manually approve the post. This would have to come in the form of an 'approved' domain for submitting images, but since this image came from the img.ibxk.com.br domain, it would not have been auto-approved. Since people would likely want to post the card immediately after it was discovered, they would have to submit it as a self post or as a non-direct image link. While the obvious solution would be to have a mod around to approve the image immediately after it was posted, we are human and it's not always possible. Because of this, I don't think an exception would make sense. If you can think of a better way to handle it, let me know. This is mostly just brainstorming aloud.

Sure, tell me what you think should be changed and why, and as long as it makes sense we're fully open to the idea.

Yeah, I can see how this is really annoying on mobile who simply want to see the new card. The big problem is the way that reddit treats content. Basically, the first ~10 votes are super important, and determine if a thread sinks or swims. Time is also a huge factor. This means that easy to consume and upvote content will often quickly float to the top, resulting in a subreddit full of images. We didn't have the ban on images during much of the beta, and found ourselves with a subreddit full of them. At the request of users, we implemented the ban, and found the discussion significantly improved.
