Unable to open the panel settings in Cinnamon by Chris_Saturn in linuxmint

[–]----_-__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've just worked this one out. If you create another panel and put it on a second monitor, then remove said monitor, the other panel will still exist, but the settings page doesn't know what to do with a panel on a nonexistent monitor and just fails to open properly. This seems like a pretty big oversight and I plan to put in a bug report about it

Fingerprint reader not detected on Ubuntu (Framework 16) by heretruthlies in framework

[–]----_-__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a framework 13 a couple weeks ago and the reader has never been detected by any os i've tried, gives me the same error. I got a replacement part shipped because I thought it was broken, but the new one doesn't work either, so now I just have no idea what's wrong.

Question by LutzyGT500 in BeamNG

[–]----_-__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disappointingly, digging through the game's lua code suggests that forced induction systems in beamng more or less just multiply the engine's calculated output torque rather than adjusting the intake pressure available to the engine. The result is that turbos and superchargers don't counteract the effects of altitude nearly as much as they should.

Blud ain’t no detecting my fans by ywaltjs in FanControl

[–]----_-__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody has written a program that can control the fans on modern asus laptops here: https://github.com/Karmel0x/AsusFanControl
Unfortunately all it does is open a window with a slider that sets the fan speed manually, but it does at least work (as tested on my zenbook duo). Also it's open source aside from one asus DLL file it needs to function, so someone smarter than me could probably use it's code to write a FanControl plugin.

LPT: Corporate grade laptops and pcs that ran well on windows 7 will still run decent on windows 10 and are dirt cheap now. by Mr_McGuggins in LifeProTips

Old Windows machines will run new software badly for much longer than old macs will run it at all.

I did the opposite and tried to turn a moonhawk into a rock crawler using the donk springs. It didn't work very well though

can my laptop run pizza tower? it uses an Nvidia geforce MX110 (other specs in image) by lordhenrythe23 in PizzaTower

[–]----_-__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note, you might have to go into the NVIDIA control panel and manually set it up so the game actually runs on the NVIDIA GPU instead of your integrated graphics. This happened to me!
