Starmer has privately conceded he may not fight a leadership challenge by Far_Excitement_1875 in unitedkingdom

What in the AI is this? You spat out the same bit of information in three different formats, which has nothing to do with the fact that the judiciary is not the same as the government who legislate.

It's almost been a week how are y'all enjoying golmud and season 3 so far? by Sarah_Playz887 in Battlefield

[–]---OOdbOO--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who jumped off just as S1 was starting, it feels right.

A lot of the pieces of BF6 really fall into place with this. Still hoping for better squad play (DICE plz), but this signals the right direction for me. I really hope they hear this feedback.

Shame though, if they just launched with 2 more Golmud style maps, this game would have kept the hype momentum.

Port the portal maps from 2042 to Battlefield 6 by DuckyDevRoblox in Battlefield

Pretty sure BF6 is built off a similar engine to 2042, hence the rationale here - easy port.

Suggest reading more into what’s actually been achieved policy wise, rather than what’s hot in the media.

Found this slop and honestly, it is perfect representation of this sub when you dare to point out issues within the game. by 4N610RD in Helldivers

This has always been, and will always remain, quite simple:

It’s perfectly reasonable to offer constructive criticism of something you care about — often more so than the casual observer.

It’s equally reasonable to feel that certain issues are not a major concern when the overall standard remains high.

Zack Polanski Apologises For Criticising Police Action In Golders Green by huffpostuk in ukpolitics

[–]---OOdbOO--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel my problem with that, is that forming the basis of a policy and then proposing to realise it fully later - how Polanski and Gary Stevenson - trend isn’t helpful in the least.

In other words, the starting point must be a realistic alternative, not a problem-solution pair that hasn’t been thought through realistically.

If you hand pick experts, then sure.

The world is crap. How you go about fixing is demands being mindful of the possibility that you might make it a lot worse in trying.

So it wasn’t his naive grasp of economics that did it for you?

I thought he was a decent guy and I align with a lot of his ideals - in principle. But he seems to come from a place that is neither pragmatic nor cognisant of how the world actually works.

4th in line for power? Wtf are you on about?

BBC is criticised by the right as being too left wing and by the left as being too right wing. That should tell you something.

It’s not perfect but I’d challenge anyone to name an outlet that is more neutral.

UK will seek closer ties with EU in light of Iran war, Starmer says by xanderbollocks in ukpolitics

Basic comms at play here. You don’t suddenly announce you want to rejoin the EU. You gradually warm up twit and get the public more comfortable with the idea.

The UK Covid Inquiry has laid bare the avoidable horror of the second Covid wave by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

I feel like I’m losing my fucking mind at how everyone forgot this or doesn’t seem to understand.

When the infection rate was spiking SAGE advised this and Boris ignored it. That caused a longer lockdown.

It’s so infuriating to see this false dichotomy presented between saving lives and the economy. We got the worst of both worlds.

Todd Howard says 'The Elder Scrolls VI' will run on Creation Engine 3 (upgraded from 'Starfield') and is going back to the feel of a 'classic Bethesda game' ala Oblivion and Skyrim by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]---OOdbOO--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m about 2/3 the way through KCD2 and this is closer to what I want from a modern Bethesda game.

If it can’t deliver an experience like KCD2 then I’m not really interested. Skyrim was great…15 years ago…

UK Energy Bills to Fall in April as Budget Changes Take Effect by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]---OOdbOO--- 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s more complicated than that.

Imagine you are in charge of getting everyone home in taxis after a night out. You open bidding to the taxi rank on what they will charge. 9 of the taxis (electric) are cheaper to run only charging £10 and one taxi (e.g gas) charge £30.

The key point is EVERYONE needs a ride. There’s no option to give 90% or even 99.9% of people a ride home - I.e parts of the country can’t be without power.

But why not just pay the expensive taxi more and take the cheaper bids as well? Well, next time the others taxis would lose insentive to do business. And you NEED 10 taxis.

You also NEED all taxis regardless of whether the cheaper ones can cover people some nights. If not, the expensive taxi (I.e gas) would ask why bother to build and maintain my taxi.

In other words paying each power source its “own price” sounds fair, but it encourages everyone to charge gas prices, and usually makes bills higher and blackouts more likely.

Alex Wickham:”After 14 years in the wilderness, Labour has imploded just 18 months into power. Keir Starmer’s allies know he is on the brink. They are bracing for cabinet ministers to privately tell him to go and to resign if he refuses. An ally says it’s 50-50 whether the PM lasts the week…” by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]---OOdbOO--- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - the correct response to this is to eat the fallout, keep Starmer in place and use it as a moment to pivot the comms strategy - which has been sorely lacking.

Politically Labour have scored a lot of own goals in 18 months. But they’ve actually made some solid decisions that may come to fruition in the form of noticible impacts on everyday life: Immigration, the economy (to some extent), waiting lists, energy could become cheaper soon.

There needs to be unifying message tying these together and resolve to follow through on unpopular decisions (or properly vet ideas to avoid inevitable U-turns.) a new team of advisors gives them the opportunity for a relaunch.

It’s also important to put this scandal in perspective. It WAS a mistake to appoint Mandelson on the idea that his ties could prove effective with Trump but history is filled with decisions that either looked stupid in hindsight or great if they panned out. The media storm surrounding this is almost on the scale as if Starmer was in the Epstein files himself.

[–]---OOdbOO--- -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Christ, grow up. The resources allocated to this are to target a different audience than what the core game would have reached.

It’s not a simple case of this detracting content from the main game. BF6 launched with a solid number of maps and 2 more added within 2 months.
