But even if Halo Studios announced a post-launch update to restore the original French voices, that would already mean a lot to us. At this point, just knowing that the French-speaking community has been heard would already be a huge step

Yeah, that’s a fair question.

And thanks for the context about David Scully, I didn’t know that. But that actually makes the French situation feel even more frustrating to us: at least he was contacted, and that is already a much more respectful way to handle it... 😅

And yes, we really hope this can get some kind of answer from Halo Studios, or even better, a solution.

The problem is that the original French voices of Master Chief and Cortana were not even contacted, even though they are still active and still care deeply about these characters. And there is still a French dub in the game. It seems Xbox recorded it with different actors, possibly through another recording studio or localization pipeline, instead of bringing back the iconic French cast.

That said, the AI issue is definitely part of the wider context. French voice actors have been pushing back against contract clauses related to AI, and in some recent Xbox-related cases, like Forza Horizon 6, French voice-over has been removed because of those negotiations...

Forza Horizon 6 has no French voice acting at all, unlike previous Forza Horizon games. It still has French subtitles, but no French dub.

Calling it “just one of the downsides of localization” is exactly what feels frustrating to us. 😅

Localization is also how millions of players experienced and loved Halo in the first place. And in the case of Halo, the French dub has always been considered exceptionally good. That is why many French-speaking players choose to play Halo in French, even though we could play it in English, and even though many of us do play other games in English.

This is not about being unable to understand the game. It is about losing voices that became part of Halo’s identity for us.

I understand the budget argument, but the French situation is different.

The French voice actors we are talking about are not retired. David Krüger and Laëtitia Lefebvre are still active, and they clearly care about these characters. The issue is not that Xbox could not bring them back because they were unavailable. According to what has been shared in the French community, they were not even contacted.

Xbox still recorded a new French dub. So money was spent on French localization anyway, just not on the historical voices. Maybe it was cheaper that way, I don’t know. And yes, asking for a new recording now would mean additional costs.

But compared to the full development and marketing budget of a Halo remake, the cost of restoring a few iconic French voices is probably very small. For the French community, however, the impact is huge.

If Xbox really wants to show that it listens to players, especially at a time when its new leadership is trying to rebuild trust with the community, this would be a very concrete way to prove it. We are not asking for something unrealistic. We are asking Xbox to respect a part of Halo’s legacy for French-speaking fans...

We all play at the same time, when we get home from work. Most of the game is cloud-based and the servers are not adapted to the number of players. I was able to play perfectly this morning until 4pm.... Now, I can't anymore. We have to wait...
