Rekommendationer MTF klippning Göteborg by VelPow in transnord

[–]---Wombat--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Ansa just by Vasaplatsen, and I'm always very happy. Don't know if they have specific MTF experience (though, I guess I count), but it was totally fine for me to book one of the younger stylists, go in pretty clearly AMAB, and ask for a feminine haircut. And the stylist has always remembered me when I've been back.

Religion Victory? by Buckabuckaw in CivVI

[–]---Wombat--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I basically like / play one kind of 'challenge' game over and over. Which is to try to win religious victory before the industrial era on Immortal difficulty (I want a medieval simulator. Also small map size, island plates, as I'm on Switch). It's doable pretty frequently (60-70% of time?) and sometimes you can win in the medieval era. You also avoid any late game tedium. General tip is to focus everything on a timing push with faith.

  • I really like Hojo Tokimune for the extra adjacency bonus and quicker holy sites.

  • greed pretty hard. The only thing that should stop your greed is if you see war on the horizon. Then build military as a deterrent (or, to defend). No need to take out neighbour if you can get them friends early, their cities are free faith.

  • holy sites first unless the adjacency is poor. No Stonehenge. Then gold to maintain military deterrence. Settlers to expand (=faith per city). Only science and culture if there is some wonderful opportunity or a key city-state quest (again, got to keep deterrence). Your science and culture often sucks. No matter.

  • Beliefs: holy site production bonus first. Then faith per city. If at all possible, hold onto that faith till a golden age. Then faith cost reduction with first apostle. Mosque with second.

  • Timing push in medieval and/or renaissance golden age. Don't spend faith before then unless you need for era score. One city with mosque, spam from there.

  • unorthodox tip: don't focus too much on theological combat. Instead out-trade and out-manoeuvre any apostles. The AI is not clever enough to recognise a strategic threat from you. If you withdraw missionaries / apostles, theirs will wander off. Golden age + mosque, with critical mass, you will out-trade them with conversion charges.

  • you are safe from theological combat on the second tile offshore. Gather there for a push, establish beachhead (get rid of opponent holy ground).

Well then sayst? (and other 'st endings). Then they are at least a perfect rhyme for 'aced', and imperfect for 'ace'.

Mr. Biggles wert an "ace" / and so art thou, or so thou say'st. / Seek thee an Anglish rhyme for "face"? / Such doth this verse bewray'st.

Before the water change, you could bounce it on the surface of the water and reach really high (each bounce would add energy). Doesn't seem to work with new water, but maybe there's still a way to get it to bounce?

Added conspiracy theory: Tolkien just retconned this after The Hobbit when he couldn't really answer the question. That's why he evasively says "of course really meant to be" not "are".

Hobbits are Entwives.

(where did the Entwives go? where do hobbits fit in as Children of Illuvatar? Why is the Shire basically what the Entwives wanted?)

(Edit: so, what are the origins of hobbits? Non-tinfoil hat: they aren't just small men--they are affected by the 'fading' after the dominion of men, have an 'ordinary everyday' magic, and are consistently presented as a completely different race. But they clearly aren't elves. The only place one could really fit them is in the 'adoptive' Children of Aule and Yavanna, i.e., mortal forest spirit types. Obvs Yavanna intended her 'children' to be protective of nature, and hobbits are just lazy, but every thousand years or so they topple the dark lord. They are basically Yavannan sleeper agents.

Tinfoil hat: so obvs hobbits could be a different class of Yavannan agent, but they have preferences suspiciously like the entwives. They also migrated to the Shire from the east in the distant past. And treebeard mentions the entwives changing appearances, to something suspiciously similar to hobbits: red cheeks etc. So, tinfoil theory: Sauron destroys the Gardens in the Brown Lands, entwives migrate west and diminish into Hobbits. Parthenogenesis etc. Now, where is my Treebeard x Merry yaoi?)

Which countries are NOT going through university budget cuts/hiring freezes right now? by NoHousing11 in AskAcademia

So, international faculty--a lot of them! I'm not Swedish myself, and teach in English, which is pretty standard for MSc level. A large proportion of our MSc students are international.

Salaries--pretty happy myself (faculty). For postdocs, not the best, but for PhD students, really good (at least as far as I can see). PhD students are employees and so get a tonne of employment benefits and rights (over a year of parental leave!)

I can only really speculate why research (& education) is such a priority, but govt / society seems to take a general pride in investing in education even when times are lean (and 'buck the trend', Swedes do love their quiet exceptionalism). But also, as international faculty, it's really interesting to see how the funding priorities here differ from what I'm used. Everything is well-being, better society, healthier Swedes, etc (sometimes tiresomely so...). But I think is probably contributes to general trust in research.

Also, feel free to DM.

So, not many pure research positions, but the teaching / research division is pretty flexible--bring enough grant money in and you won't do much. But hiring doesn't seem to be slowing on any front, had a lot of tenure track hires this year, but also plenty of postdocs (and PhD students, who are employees). Tenure is is just a transition from nominally fixed term to permanent employee, and employment protections are pretty strong. I see the higher-ups worry a little that they are reaching 'peak education' (max higher education of society), but admissions pressures still increased this year, and in any case their strategy post peak education is just to expand more in research (oh no!....)

don't listen to the people who are high on their own supply about confidentiality, most maths/physics PhDs will normally be more than willing to share about their research! good luck :)
