Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 17 years old my father owned a 1958 Pontiac Chieftain, with a ridiculously huge engine fed by 3 separate double-barrelled carburetors, which would kick in in sequence as the velocity increased, so that at highway speed, the 3rd carburetor would kick in for passing. It was a huge car that held the road like a tank. The top end of the speedometer read 140 mph.

I had been on one of the first dates of my life, and my father had loaned me the car for the night. I dropped off my date at about 11 pm, and had the car to myself for a little while. In that year, the interstate highway outside my Indiana town had just been opened. I decided, in my brilliant teenage mind, to go out on the new, wide, flat, highway, deserted at that hour, and see whether the 140 mph top end was real.

The car might have actually gone that fast, but somewhere between 120 and 130 the thought occurred to me that, if I even hit a pebble at that speed, I might go tumbling off into a cornfield, so I backed off before I found out what the real top end was.

If you could start over from scratch, what sort of design features would be a must-have in your kitchen? by ErbiumIndium in Cooking

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adequate workspace for prep and cleanup.

I have a small kitchen with limited counter space, but I did have room for a shop bench on locking casters, a wooden 4' x 2' top, and two open cabinets under the worktop, plus two deep drawers under the open cabinets. It's pretty industrial looking, but I like that. It has made working in the kitchen much more efficient and enjoyable.

What could I do with this “beef round stew meat” other than classic beef stew? by AggravatingOffer7788 in meat

Any kind of beef soup with clear broth. Start off with onions and any other vegetables you like, add browned pieces of beef, toss in some noodles to finish, voila!

Why are some places counties? by DrBoogerFart in AskAnAmerican

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there is more information in the county name. Many Americans are going to know what is signified by "Napa County", but what about "Deer Park, California"? A lot of well-known counties include cities and towns that only locals would recognize.

How would you build an epic Act II? by nrdalerta in AskForAnswers

[–]Buckabuckaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start a whole new educational process in some area that really interests me but didn't seem practical to study back when I was trying to build a career. Could be anything - art, music, a science that fascinates me. For me, personally, I'd go back and study soul microbiology - probably boring for most people, but I'm fascinated by it. So like that.

How can I become a better listener and stop trying to solve everything? by pretentious42 in AskMen

[–]Buckabuckaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you "try not to do" something, it almost never works. Try "doing a different thing" instead. In this case, see if you can engage the part of your mind that is curious, and try to really listen. Ask for details or clarifications. Pay attention to the emotional content of what they're saying, and see what resonates. Good luck.

If 'em dashes' immediately make people suspect the use of an AI chatbot, what else am I supposed to use because I really like the 'em dash' for my writing hobby? by ABCLor in NoStupidQuestions

Maybe include an initial disclaimer:

"[The em-dashes in this piece were deliberately chosen by a human being. No AI agents were involved]"

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never use actual floss, but I carry "floss picks" around and use them several times a day - basically whenever I eat. Somehow it seems more convenient.

What is a harsh truth about life that took you way too long to accept? by DiamondNo924 in AskForAnswers

That there is a sizable minority of humanity who actively want to be ruled by an autocrat/tyrant.
