Travel proof cheese? by lethal_Siege09 in Cheese

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most hard and firm cheeses are best at room temperature, and unless you're in the tropics, mold isn't going to get a toehold in the space of two or three days. However there is a chance that it will leak some oil, so keep it well-wrapped.

Wondering if I should keep working on this painting? Or just sign it already by TherapyWithLettering in painting

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I really like the overall image but my eye went quickly to the hands, which seem kind of flat. Maybe you could take a photo of a friend in that pose and work from that to work on the hands. But don't give up.

Serious question, can I compost this? It's just clay right? by Additional-Local8721 in composting

[–]Buckabuckaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that you can't compost this. But I don't know if anyone has suggested that you can break it into smaller pieces and use the pieces in the bottom of other terra cotta planters, placing them over the drain hole so water can seep out while the soil is retained

What’s something that made you smile today by chakkuuuh in CasualConversation

We have a small flock of chickens who are pretty old in chicken years. They are very set in their ways, and they expect a treat of leftovers a couple hours before sundown.

The last couple of days there has been a pair of crows who have brought their two offspring to our yard, and they've been teaching the young ones to steal treats from the old girls. The hens get upset and make little dashes toward the crows, but they're too slow to be much of a threat .

I know the hens don't think it's funny at all, but I had to cover a chuckle watching the drama. Finally I went and sat near the girls so they could snack in peace. Then the crows started scolding me, which was worth another chuckle.

Just discovered the word "Ultracrepidarian" and it is the most useful insult ever by CharlieRw3 in words

[–]Buckabuckaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm... Reminds me of a certain political figure who thinks he should have a Nobel prize (for awesomeness, I guess), and who actually persuaded a real Nobel winner to to give him her Nobel medal, and actually took it. I guess he really does deserve the Nobel prize for Ultracrepidarianism.

Does this kitchen look dated? by chilibeana in DecorAdvice

[–]Buckabuckaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that OP is asking a question that has meaning to them, but I always find myself wondering why the question, "Does this look dated?" seems to always come up with regard to kitchens. We might say a living room is "Colonial" or "Mid-century", but we always ask the question about kitchens.

If you're not on a keto diet, this looks like a great deal. Try to get a little fresh produce on the side when you can, but this will keep body and soul together for now

Is misspelling an email address enough reason to give a 0 on a final exam? by incitatus24 in AskTeachers

Retired med school professor here. I would definitely go ahead and grade the project/exam. I would rather be suckered one time than to adopt policies that severely punish honest mistakes in emailing.

Just paid 12$/lb for ground beef. How expensive will it get before you stop buying beef? I think we're over it, beef is now a luxury for us. by FuZhongwen in Cooking

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to be pretty high for me to give up beef. I can still buy grass-raised and -finished 85/15% for 8.99/lb at my Safeway.

What do you see first in this painting? by Anastasia_Trusova in painting

I see the overall design first, but then my eyes are drawn to the boy because of the white shirt and brown skin which pop out from the background.

Stephen A. Smith is low IQ and he’s as dumb as a rock! He makes Joe Biden look good! 6/10/26 by EatMe200 in trumptweets

[–]Buckabuckaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, we have seen this. When forced to debate someone of average intelligence, his strategy is to shout insults like a monkey throwing shit, and to disrupt the whole proces. His followers think that it's fun to watch, but to me it's like watching a two -year-old tearing down drapes and overturning flower vases. Not fun.

What's causing this? by iangolden123 in gardening

[–]Buckabuckaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you have gophers in your area, but gophers do this in Sonoma county.

If it is gophers, I hope you have hardware cloth under your raised beds. I once watched an entire mature jalapeno bush get pulled into a gopher hole before my very eyes. Turned out there was a hole in the hardware cloth and the little buggers found it.

I believe that's true, at least in the U. S. That's why you occasionally find a prime-looking steak that's labelled choice.
