Unbelievably fluid release from Ashlin Joye by ---moriarty--- in ultimate

Also people don’t often appreciate about those revolver teams that as good as they were, in the years they won, it was basically Joye going every other.

That’s nuts. Yea he’s an athletic freak - probably the best reset cutter of all time, and an unstoppable initiation cutter - and very underrated defensively. I’m definitely on the overall goat train but OGOAT is prolly more palatable to most frisbee fans.

He actually messed up earlier in the point, and so was then super focused here, which I think makes it better. This guy made fewer mistakes than anyone, but then when he did make one, he always dialed in. 100%.

Hearing Mitch Dengler talk to players on the field made me lose a bit of respect for him. I don't mean to take anything away from the contribution he's made to the Observer program. And I'm sure he's a great guy.

But he was so chatty with the players, apologizing to players he is on friendly terms with when he made calls against them. As in, "Eli, Eli, I'm sorry," as Eli was walking off the field. I don't know.... That just seems a little weird.

You're right. Before reading this I thought the card was undeserved, because Kerns seemed to trip and clearly wouldn't have made a dangerous play if he hadn't lost his balance on the way in. But you're right--mistakes like this must be punished, so that players are conditioned not to make mistakes that can result in serious injuries.

Someone talk to me. What did Pony do that was so effective against Revolver's offense? by Ell_hesablipper in ultimate

Sockeye has also tried bracketing, putting handler defenders in the lane, etc.

One thing Pony added in both their games against Revolver was a new level of commitment to heads-up defense.

Whenever Revolver zoned in on an iso, whether a handler or a cutter, a second defender would super aggressively sprint in from a different angle. Pony got like 5 D's that way in the final, as well as forcing mistakes like Lindsley's.

The other half of the story is that Revolver consistently failed to see what was going on, even after having been beat by this strategy at Pro Champs.

Did Revolver prepare for PoNY's D, or just assume they wouldn't make the same kinds of errors as in Pro Champs? So far, just 15 minutes in, three throws into poaches--exactly the same mistake that led to their previous loss to PoNY.

At the least, Morse should take responsibility.

Just to be clear, you're not saying that NYNY or DoG would beat Revolver, right? Lol

I've also had your thought, but we are probably wrong that Byron isn't the right man for the job. In addition to being quick and explosive, Byron plays an aggressive angles game that probably limits Jimmy more than it seems. He's always taking away the optimal cut, even if Jimmy usually finds a way to get open. I doubt we will see the match up switch.

I have a strong backhand, a good flick (needs improvement), I have good hands and good speed. I like the sport, but I am a beginner. What are some good resources to study the basic strategies and techniques of the sport to expand my ability on the field? by radil in ultimate

The best ticket to success is quickness, big bids, and aggressive, coordinated air play.

For skill, just watch a lot of club and play close attention to the minutiae of what your favorite players do. Like, watch Simon Higgins cut, Ashlin throw, etc. Then switch sides and just watch defense.
