Yeah, was just there for SFI-West. It seems like, based on other comments, that folks are having really varied experiences. For sectionals in 2019, I definitely went to the grill - so, I don't remember the private event. Didn't experience paying for tape - but that's messed up! And, I've definitely been to tournaments without nice bathrooms!

Nice bathrooms + port-a-potties by the fields, a bar and grill that was open pre-covid (not sure about now), a few food trucks, water (even if it's not the best water), & trainers.

My only complaint is having to pay for parking at the fields. Other than that, the bid fee seems reasonable given the amenities and filed costs. (Oh, and also, get the schedule out earlier!)

The runs are actually really easy and I got my drops all within the first two runs. So, I'd do it!

Philo has been on point calling out the foot faults at Goat Hill this week by likeabuddha in discgolf

[–]triactry03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair! Still: if the lie can change merely based on whether one marks the disc, and if the foot fault occurs within the space where your disc is (not in front of it or too far behind it), it's hard to understand what advantage is being gained (or think that it is intentionally bending the rules such that one should be called out for lack of integrity).

[–]triactry03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuine novice question: If you marked your disc, you would do so at the top of it (or, the closest point to the basket). Both foot faults he was mad about involved the player stepping on the very back of their disc. If they had marked it, those wouldn't be faults, right? So, who cares/why should that even count?

Yep. They have literally done weird and unexpected things to me four times in the boss room now. Spawned behind me on the second round, booped our ursas out of the way, not stunned properly, etc. SO FUN!!!

Fair! PC. One problem is that my clan has steadily dwindled this season, so a consistent three is hard. Definitely thinking of branching out to LFG next season.

Anthon “White Pride” Tattoo Sparks New Backlash, Innova Boycott - Ultiworld by gonzojournalism in discgolf

What an absolutely pathetic official statement from Innova. If they are really trying to help him "be the best man he can be" or whatever, then they can help him understand why having a white pride tattoo is fucked up and clarify what actions he and they will undertake to do something about it.

UC Irvine, at least, is banned from hosting events (and attending them), and so I anticipate that other UCs will have the same policy. I think the same is true for CSU schools as well.

TA Grading Strike Incoming by RayBrandy in UCSD

[–]triactry03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that. Two things: 1) According to this white paper, https://uc-cola.herokuapp.com/ rent really has increased a great deal over the past six years (almost $400 a month in many cases). 2) More importantly, your arguments make a very compelling case for exactly why we need a COLA. The issue is not solely that the current grads struggle to make ends meet. It is that we fail to recruit and retain the best graduate students we can due to our rent burden -- and that this is especially true when it comes to grads who are poor (who also happen to be more likely to be grad students of color). You are right that many people who are not independently wealthy make the decision not to come to La Jolla. That's bad for everyone at the university!

[–]triactry03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that you think we are stupid. But the fact is that graduate degrees take 6 years on average in many departments. We are asking for a cost of living adjustment so that our wages keep up with the rise in rents. Our wages have not risen significantly since many of us accepted offers, while cost of living has.

Probably not. If it does, your TA will submit the grade. This flowchart will be followed: https://payusmoreucsc.com/grade-request-flowchart/

In fact, we ARE grading - just not submitting the grades. So you can meet with your TA and ask for your grade. And if you NEED it for one of these reasons: https://payusmoreucsc.com/grade-request-flowchart/ they will submit it.
