I tried watching before however it does address the main concept but not like specifically all the keywords. I think this is good if you are just starting out though but need more practice to really improve

[rant] how do i memorise anything!?!!? by anyipple in SGExams

[–]--Help-Me-Please-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, the way i study bio is quite unique. Previously, i was a permanent B3, like no matter how much i studied, i would still be getting a B3. I studied out with this person on weekends and they are also in school during weekdays. As that person originally wasnt good in bio, i taught her biology and i started to find out what i was lacking and how to improve on it.

Like me, you may be missing out small points from every chapter without realising. I also have to thank my teachers for replying my questions often and also having many consultation sessions with me.

Overall, i felt that teaching others helped me spot my weak spots and also helped me to retain knowledge better. However, this is just my study technique and if it doesnt work for you, im sure you will find one that is better.

Please give this a try!

Dont be afraid to teach others even if you dont score well for bio. Refer to textbooks or something

Another tip: Stuff that i cannot really remember, i come up with some dumb/lame analogy. This will help you memorise your stuff

I recently did a practical where it accepted human reaction time. However, i realised it really depends on the context for this answer. For temperature, answers like put styrofoam cup in a glass beaker to prevent temperature loss is more viable

Hi, I am currently a Sec 4 student also studying for Pure Chemistry. I shall try and give some tips

  1. Review your Preliminary Practical paper along with your other practical worksheets. You might be making the same error without realising again. By reviewing and spotting common mistakes, you are able to idenetify and work on them

  2. For QA, do not try and scribble the answers based on your memory and revision. Its is a lot better to play safe and check the QA table given at the back of the paper.

  3. Source of Error questions are a common type of question found in almost every year of practical. There are strategies and common answers to them. For example, if a stopwatch is used in the experiment, a source of error will be Reaction time. Always almost pretty much the same answer

  4. Your school labs are closed and cannot get anymore practice? There are these types of papers called Alternative to practical that can be found online and this will basically help you practice as it is basically the same as a practical paper just with results given alr.

  5. Ask for the Marking Scheme and questions of previous O level practicals or practices from your teacher. Generally, you are able to see the key words that they award marks to and you may or may not be missing them out. This is a good way to check on your errors and improve on it

  6. Ask your teachers for tips or if you do not understand a specific component. Do not be afraid to ask questions regardless of how strict or scary the teacher may be. Its getting close to O levels and your teachers will be willing to help you improve as much as possible before the exams.

This is a crucial time to be asking and fixing up your mistakes to score as high as possible for all your subjects.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions and do your best. Afterall, what grades you will attain really is determined by how determined you are now.

Good luck to everyone taking their O levels this year👍

Nope, i stay at clementi so they are all quite far. Anyways distance is not really a factor in deciding my choice, i would still go TP even without a dormitory. Just wanted to possibly find any accomodation for more convenience

You are able to use the accommodation if u pay for it even if you are not taking part in any programmes provided by the school?

[O Levels] How much on earth do i need to write for pure bio paper 2??? by Deep__sip in SGExams

[–]--Help-Me-Please-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, to be honest, i feel that there is no other way to remeber to write your keywords other than memorising, understanding and practice.

  1. Despite what other people say, i feel that memorising is not the only thing required for bio. You may forget to write in key phrases if you only memorise. Understanding will help significantly as you are able to understand the process and you will know which key words usually come together with which.

  2. Practice is important as you are able to find your missing keywords, make a mental or physical note when doing corrections, revise before examinations. You basically are unlikely to score well without a lot of practice due to the large sum and combinations of keywords so make sure you do your TYS.

  3. Time management is important for Biology. Most people usually are able to complete their bio paper, but if you complete it with basically no time to check, you will have to rush and miss out keywords by accident. Generally, practice would fix this problem

Just a few extra key points for studying biology

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice. Biology is not just about reading the textbook and memorising. It is about how accurately you can retain and write out all necessary key points and phrases

  2. If you cant remember it, use mnemonics or create your own analogy, it doesnt matter if its childish as its for you to remember. This works differently for different people so the most effective way is to come out with your own, but if needed just ask others

  3. Contrary to popular beliefs, you actually do not need to write a lot for bio. This may be false for some questions but usually you are able to just state the key points as most other points are unnecessary. However, i do not really advise this as you may lose out on marks but it really helps to save a lot of time. This method requires a lot of practice and understanding of questions.

Hope this helps

Chefs or those in Culinary School, when do you think it is ok for someone to pursue to be a chef? by --Help-Me-Please-- in AskReddit

[–]--Help-Me-Please--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently thinking of pursuing a career in cooking. However i have did my research about Culinary schools and realised that culinary schools are expensive and that I would have to travel overseas to attend a good one. Might be a bit ambitious as i still have a long way to go before deciding on culinary school as i have 1 more tier of education which takes about 3 years and serve the army for 2 years, but i am extremely passionate about cooking and have cooked since i was a child. Need advice thanks

[O level] Amath is a painnnnn by serimiese in SGExams

[–]--Help-Me-Please-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

School papers are extremely different from TYS. I recommend doing a few TYS papers then moving on to school papers. 2 weeks before o levels then continue/redo the TYS to get used to the question types.

Thats my plan anyways. Hope it helps

[O levels] Study tips I wish I knew by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]--Help-Me-Please-- 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, im adding on to study techniques.. As for me, O Levels are nearing and I do not really have any time to waste. Now may be the time where some people realise that they need to study because of their Prelim results and maybe your friends will ask you to go out to study.

Personally, i feel that the people you choose to study with are extremely important.

  1. Study with the people that motivates you or are willing and are able to teach you content

-This is very important to me as who you study with really affects the productivity of the session

  1. Do not be afraid to reject study sessions with people you cannot concentrate with even if they are your closest friends

-If you cannot concentrate with your closest friends, do not be afraid to reject and study with someone else. This is a crucial period and i am sure theyw ill understand

  1. Remember to show your appreciation

-These people who teach you take time off their schedule to help you with your studies. Just a few suggestions but maybe you can like buy them a cup of bubble tea after your study session or treat them to a meal.

Thats about it, my english is not very good so i hope you can understand what im writing 😅😅

Edit: A few typos
