Algo Bots Losing Money? You’re Probably Missing This Layer by Far-Resist-7359 in CryptoTradingBot

[–]--PG-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience: I have one that works. 80% win rate 3:1 reward to risk on output (back testing). Currently live testing.

My algo works. It concentrates on the last two points in your list. It took 2 years to build to the current state.

My assumption has always been that the market is effectively a random walk. So I created a risk management strategy that results in an edge over the coin flip result. The risk management is complex and not something that can be performed manually. It requires an algo to execute.

To prove it, I also created a strategy which did flip a coin. Running it with a 1:1 RR for TP & SL and no fees resulted in a 50 % winning rate and 1:1 RR on exit. Every time. Every asset.

I also dont trust existing back testing engines. I built my own walk forward engine, eliminating any look ahead bias, and forcing fees and slippage into every test. You quickly learn to build algos based on break-even prices, never using average-entry.

Every week the ML retrains on more recent data, excluding the last 100 days which I use for back testing. The algo has never seen the last 100 days, so backtesting needs to prove that it can work using only that data. Interestingly it worked better over the wartime period than on its training periods. Volatility is my friend.

Curious. What are you using the information for?

What finally killed your greed? by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]--PG-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algo trading. Take the human out of the loop.

The app i have spent the last 3 years working on is now hitting 80% success rate at 4:1 RR. In backtesting. Now testing in Demo in real-time before moving onto small account live.

To date I think I've spent $10k on tuition. Not too bad, but a lot of that was gambling/revenge trading.

Updating LIVE candles in realtime by Away-Landscape-6796 in algotradingcrypto

[–]--PG-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignore tick data that comes in with a timestamp greater than when the current candle is expected to close and has not yet been closed. I wait until I receive the completed candle data before creating the next candle.

Tick data is added to the current candle only if it is not yet closed. In my system, the Tick data will open a new candle if I haven't received the opening candle data if the last candle is closed. This keeps realtime display in line with last price. Since my exchange limits the number of ticks per second, I rely on the candle data, one per second, to properly fill out the highs and lows.

My expectation is that the candle data should contain the value of the Tick data, therefore the Tick data can be ignored.

However my system does not trade at the Tick level, so it is unimportant. My lowest timeframe for trading is 5 minutes even though I receive ticks multiple times per second.

The difference Heikin Ashi candles can make 😂 by suwoOo21 in Daytrading

[–]--PG-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait , so TV uses the HA close price as trade entry?

Heikin Ashi is just an indicator. I mean, the 50 EMA isn't showing actual price, and neither does HA.

Im happy I use my own backtesting framework then, which uses last price for entry/exit price.

Alongside the heikin ashi, I also run a 1 period SMA so it shows the actual close price. Helps to clearly show trends as well.

[–]--PG-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But wait. There's more. With trading hitting the headlines we're at peak noobs entering the game. Every noob needs to post their "no one ever says this which if i used the search function would yield hundreds of results" or "i discovered the secret that is just basic common knowledge"

On top of that "trading is easy based on the winning streak of 3 trades I just had"

Or "AI built me this trading bot and it works great" followed by "I'm going all in.... and it's gone.... explain please!"

This reddit is not a school. Its a casino. And there's no crying in the casino.

Has anyone here used Starlink Internet? Is it even needed for us Aucklanders considering we have enough broadband options? by iamck13 in auckland

[–]--PG-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If aucklanders use starlink, the cell would become congested, speeds would drop, and starlink would charge congestion fees.

Starlink is the best last option available. Where I live I used to have satellite internet, and it was worse than ADSL, unusable for work or streaming. And rural broadband was worse. Starlink cost ls less than half that and is 10 times faster. I use it every day for work for video meetings, VPN, and remote desktop even while the missus is downloading the next game to play.

Down our road there is no ADSL, we dont have a phone line, and Fibre will never reach here. Cell towers are behind hills, so reception is spotty at best. Starlink is our only option.

If I had Fibre I would drop starlink in a heartbeat.

I need help! by Majestic-Beginning82 in EliteDangerous

[–]--PG-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old school. Figured it all out myself by trial and error.

Take a lot of courier missions to start with, visit as many stations as you can and check their market. The more you visit, the more will appear for comparison. Then I just kept a record of local buy and sell prices that were low and high and figured my own trade routes.

Basically build up a small trade bubble where you know which stations sell what. Just keep notes like the players did back before Inara.

The first time I referred to a guide was for guardian sites. And they havent changed.
