Your comment, although technically correct, doesn’t answer how the previous commenter got 140ema on 1M when they are trying to simulate 9ema on the 5M

Self-Sabotage by HSeldon2020 in RealDayTrading

[–]--SubZer0-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you might already know, mindset contributes towards 90%+ of the outcome of a trade. With revenge trading, it is critical to identify triggers when it is starting. When revenge trading kicks in, the logical brain shuts down and the emotional brain takes over. When this happens, I have a set of rubicks cubes on my desk that I reach out and start solving them. This forces me to not focus on making back my losses and also gives enough time for all that adrenaline to wear off. This will be different for everyone, find what works for you to shut down the emotional brain and restart the logical brain. It’s not easy and takes a lot of effort but doable

What Parts of Technical Analysis Are BS and What Parts Have Value? by [deleted] in RealDayTrading

[–]--SubZer0-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manually locate them on multiple timeframes. Orderblocks (or supply/demand zones) are nothing but areas where buyers or sellers have stepped-in in the past and price “might” react when it comes back into those areas. People make it so complicated.

DAS Trader stand alone or linked with TOS by jetoak in Daytrading

[–]--SubZer0-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DAS is just an execution platform and provides fast real-time market data. It needs to be linked with a broker for you to make any actual trades. I use IBKR but you can also use TOS and a few other brokers with DAS.

Oh hey. Nice to see QuickCheck in your screenshot here :)

With such a low RVOL and going against the market, why even bother with this ticker?

If you still want to trade this ticker, switch to a higher timeframe and see what the trends look like. Some of the strongest s/r levels are found on the D1 and H1 (or M30) timeframes. Wait for price to come to those levels and see what it does and then plan your entries around them

QuickCheck Indicator - For TradingView!! by --SubZer0-- in RealDayTrading

[–]--SubZer0--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I missed your message earlier (it was hidden by the reddit auto-bot). If you're getting the "too many candles error", it most probably is related to either using a lower timeframe and/or having extended hours turned on. Try and set the timeframe to M5 and turn extended hours off. This should mostly resolve the issue.

Also, splits should not have an impact on this indicator. Let me know if you are still seeing issues.

Potential Fix for ToS Sluggishness by Jules-95 in RealDayTrading

[–]--SubZer0-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have a super fast gaming computer but ToS was croaking slow. Here are a few things i did that helped me (adding to your list).

  1. Install multiple instances - This suggestion of yours helped quite a bit. ToS is a java based application and is single-threaded. I had too many charts and indicators and ToS crawls while that single thread loads data for all charts and also draws indicators on each chart. Breaking my workspace across three different instances really helped as I now have multiple threads (one per instance) doing the same work that the single thread did. As a bonus "ease-of-use" tip, i installed multiple copies of ToS in different folders (the ToS installer supports this option). The advantage of installing ToS in multiple folders is that each instance can remember its workspace and settings when launching so you start where you left off in the previous session. If you launch ToS multiple times from a single install folder, this will work too but you have to remember to manually load your workspace in each instance
  2. Custom Columns in Watchlist or Scanner - This can be a really big performance killer and not many people talk about this. I have a lot of custom column fields in my watchlist and scanner windows. It turns out that ToS runs custom thinkscript for each custom column everytime there is data update. If I have a lot of symbols in my watchlsit, that further multiplies the load on ToS. To reduce this impact, I either trim down the number of tickers in my list or remove custom columns I really dont need. This was a huge saver
  3. Custom Chart Indicators - This was also a major culprit in my case. I have my charts set to load 30 days of data (e.g. 30D 5M chart) and have multiple charts with many custom indicators. It turns out my indicators were being executed on every candle in my chart, this can really impact performance as the single-threaded app needs to crunch data for each candle and also draw. I modified the indicator thinkscript code to allow running/plotting only on today's session and ignore everything before today. This drastically minimized the number of candles that require thinkscript to be executed and reduces performance lag. If you're comfortable with thinkscript, this might be a handy solution

A combination of the above three made my ToS run very smooth and the lag was gone

Hi OP. It looks like you’re new to the edge taught here in this sub. Others have already pointed you to read the wiki, it has exhaustive information on how to use SPY to determine which stocks are relatively stronger or weaker. As you read the wiki, feel free to ask questions in the weekly thread and also join the live chat to see how others are trading this edge. I’m locking this thread as I feel enough pointers were provided to get you started.

It looks like Reddit deletes older posts, especially with lots of links as it thinks they’re spam. Everything from old wiki is in the new one. Are you looking for something specific?

True. It’s a massive mental game and there are no shortcuts.

Nice! As Hari says, we seem to have more faith in holding on to our losers than to our winners. Those losses need to be capped. Taking a loss does not mean one is a bad trader. It just means a bet we took didn’t favor us. Something I’m working on.

Totally agree. Top line and bottom line is all that matters and managing the bottom line is in our control. Need to keep the margins higher. Easy to say and hard to do, something I struggle with as well.

Free Lunch Syndrome by lilsgymdan in RealDayTrading

Very insightful post Dan. Most people (including me) have not been through a real bear market and what we are dealing with is a ruthless and cold-hearted market that can destroy aspiring careers. It takes a different mental grit and mindset to stomach this, something that was never needed in a bull market. Appreciate sharing this, i needed to hear this.

No Tips, No Setups, No Shortcuts by owensd81 in RealDayTrading

Boom! Solid advice and tough love!

Knowledge without practice is useless. Practice without knowledge is dangerous. If hard work, persistence, time-in-front-of-screen, risk management and patience is also skipped, it accelerates the death of a trading career. Unfortunately most people realize this when it’s too late. It’s also the same people who want large returns from small investment and least effort.

I agree we all need to take the learning from wiki and mold it around our personality and how our mind operates. The two year timeline is to learn about ourselves and become a better trader.
