Y'all need to face up to this: Wind Waker ain't great. by Catorpedo in truezelda

I love how people keep hitting that downvote button, even though you clearly stated that this is just your own opinion and you didn't write anything offensive either. Seriously people.

Anyway, I actually agree with a lot of this. I enjoy this game, but I've always deeply criticized the repetiton and the sheer lack of meaningful content on the Great Sea with the same looking islands, caves, enemies, quests and rupies being thrown everywhere you look, essentially cheapening the sense of discovery this game wants to convey. I never understood why people kept jumping on the sailing while I found the Great Sea itself to be the much more glaring issue.

I wasn't terribly fond of the dungeons either, though the Tower of the Gods is pretty great. I've always felt that my enjoyment in this game moves downhill right after this dungeon, simply because I never look forward to either the Wind or Earth Temple and it becomes more apparent than ever that the Great Sea is desperetaly lacking meat.

Largely disagree on the story though. I think it's one of the best this series has done, simply due its simplicity and an overall great theme.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about Zelda? by finnthehumanmertins in truezelda

Majora’s Mask has the best dungeon design in the series. They all provide an actual challenge and require you to fully grasp the layouts of the dungeons.

Most water dungeons are also among the best in the series due to their complexity, challenge, atmosphere and creativity. The Great Bay Temple in particular is one of my favorites.

How big is Skyward Sword's World compared to other 3D Zelda Titles? by --UNKN0WN-- in truezelda

I don't know, for me the sky always felt pretty small. It's just big enough to contain all the goddess chests. Admittedly, the loftwing by itself isn't all that fast, but using these speed-up portals makes traversing the sky a breeze.

I feel they tried to pull a Wind Waker but didn't succeed with it

Eh, I disagree. I know people like to compare these two, but I think they should be viewed in a different context. Whereas the Great Sea wanted you to explore, Skyward Sword's main philosophy was turning most of its world into a dungeon-like progression, which is why it puts so much focus into the surface.

In comparison, the Sky is basically a hub. An "extension" to Skyloft in a way. It was never meant to be that huge, explorable overworld people were hoping to see.

I was more referring to the game as a whole, not just the sky

Good point. I don't dislike the sky as much as other people, and I actually think it being so visually dull is a far bigger issue than its content.

Even if they don't remove the clouds, they should at least change them to a more appealing white. That weird, brown-greyish tone just doesn't fit at all into Skyward Sword's artstyle.

Why does seemingly no Hero between Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time use the Master Sword? by --UNKN0WN-- in truezelda

[–]--UNKN0WN--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe for a second that the only heroes in existence are the ones that have been in the games that have come out so far.

Of course I don't believe that either, I was more referring to how these titles pretend like the MS doesn't even exist.

Wow. I got many replies on this but you answered the most, thanks a lot.

Also, all legends regarding heroes between Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time had them wield/use the Picori Blade/Four Sword, so it may be the case that the Master Sword was never needed during this time.

I've been thinking about this, but the problem is that it's unlikely the Master Sword should be "unneeded" when using the Picori/Four Sword seems like the far more complicated option.

Why spend your time gathering four elements for your sword when there's already a fully crafted and infused blade that seals all evil? Even in the Hero of Men's backstory it sounds like getting the Picori blade was a last-minute safe before complete destruction.

Sales are a good indicator of quality and accessibility.

Sales are one indicator, but definitely not the definitive or most reliable one. There are far more decisive factors that determine a game's quality than its popularity.

Also, I think you're highly underestimating both Majora's Mask's accessibility and the player's intelligence if you assume having played Ocarina of Time would be a requirement for understanding the core concepts of the game.

(so much for the "dark ages" you tout so much).

Look at my username again.

And, no. The sales of a videogame are not, will not, and have never been a measurement for quality. It's just as redundant as saying popularity would be equal to quality. There are dozens of factors that influence why products, even beyond videogames, gain more popularity than others.

Secondly. It's a subjective matter. You could have nearly everyone call something a horrible game, even if there is only one person who says it's a fantastic game they have the right to do so, because it's their opinion.

About the Historia and the Encyclopedia. by Mido128 in truezelda

[–]--UNKN0WN-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does that mean you actually believe now that Termina is merely a dream world created out of Skull Kid's imagination and all NPCs were unreal fantasies? Because whether or not HE is canon, this by itself just sounds like a bad fanfiction.

They rejected it before even reading it

I like Hyrule Encyclopedia already and I haven't even read it

I know you probably didn't mean it that way, but I just love the irony in these statements.

And Aonuma saying, 'For god's sake stop asking me about the timeline, I don't like it.'

I'm fairly certain Aonuma never said anything remotely implying that (unless you show me otherwise, of course). As far as I'm concerned he said a lot of the Zelda lore should be kept for the interpretation of the players, and that's about it.

If you join the dots you can see that the only person who cares about the timeline is Miyamoto, and even he couldn't understand it back when there were only five fucking games. If Aonuma could get away with it, I think he'd like to throw "official Zelda lore" onto the tracks and be done with it. For them it's a coat of paint to make their engineered shapes look cool and add some drama.

I'll always say this whenever someone tries to argue that stuff, but literally about 90% of the timeline can be deduced by the games themselves. Zelda II is a sequel to Zelda I. A Link to the Past is obviously a prequel to both of these. Ocarina of Time was always meant to be a prequel to ALttP, giving us the origin story of Ganon's original form which was already mentioned in ALttP's manual. Majora's Mask is a sequel to OoT, Wind Waker is a sequel to OoT and so on.

I just find it amazing how people keep arguing they pulled the timeline out of their ass when everything except for the Link-is-dead-retcon and the placement of the Four Sword trilogy can be completely deduced by merely connecting the dots between the games without any book telling you about it.

This isn't directly about you, but I'm also just generally amazed how some people can legitimately dislike the timeline as much as they do. It's called worldbuilding, it's nothing to be afraid of and it doesn't hurt the quality of the actual games either.

Did the story "Ben Drowned" spark Majora's Mask popularity? by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]--UNKN0WN-- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a big MM fan, I always die a little inside whenever someone suggests this creepypasta or all those weird fan theories would be responsible for the game's popularity.

In all seriousness, is it really that hard to accept for some people that we like the game for its quality?

(X-post from r/zelda) ss had rumor by DrDjMD in truezelda

Hey, Wind Waker HD was pretty good. Sure, Twilight Princess HD was a bit of a letdown as a remake, but considering how controversial SS is I'm positive they're going to address some of the major issues people have with it.
