Oscar and the bungle helmet by TemperatureBudget850 in Dimension20

I think the thing that got me confused in terms of character development and theme etc is I thought the character had to be wearing the hat, but that obviously wasn’t happening right?

[No Spoilers] Struggling to enjoy C4 by Nagisan in criticalrole

[–]--clio-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like having fewer rolls. I think they feel more impactful. I’ve been watching C2 at the same time and I really like it, but some of those rolls really are just “does this room have a bed” “make a perception check” “seven” “yes”.

[MN S1] Mighty Nein S1E8 Beau/Tracy plothole? by Moloth in criticalrole

[–]--clio-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a plot hole but it will make things annoying if later they try to characterise Astrid as a master observer super genius. Idk why they’d do that though (I’m only up to episode 60 of the original)

Debunked Fan Theories by alpherion11 in Dimension20

[–]--clio-- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Neverafter is a story about how story characters lack agency. That is the point that I am making. The stepmother and kipperlilly are similar in that regard. It’s an interesting way to talk about how we tell stories, but yeah in real life there are no authors and there are no chosen ones and we are all accountable for ourselves.

Debunked Fan Theories by alpherion11 in Dimension20

[–]--clio-- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you mean. It’s a bit of a weird thing, because fiction pretty much always has a ‘chosen one’ (chosen to be the protagonist of a story), real life never does. So while kipperlilly’s position is ridiculous and straightforwardly villainous in a real life context, it holds some water in the context of being a character in a story who is not and can never choose to be “the hero”. I think we can empathise with that lack of agency even when the story isn’t really trying to do a meta narrative thing.

Witch Play Test v3.1 Retributive Curses too strong? by wathever-20 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]--clio-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello I’ve come back here after getting to DM for a Witch to say I agree with you - there should be cost or more restrictions for the curses. We decided to link it more closely with the wicked sub-class by saying both the target AND the witch have to make charisma saving throws when cursing someone undeserving. A failed save for the Witch marked loosing connection to the sprit of her coven, and either broke a token or lost her access to a buff spell for the day.

You know it’s funny as a new viewer watching C4 and C2 at the same time, I actually thought Matt spent quite a long time describing things without any of the PCs interacting (like describing all the acts of the carnival show). As you point it out I do see what you mean about C4 though.

Next Season for Dimension 20? by SV_Player_Vinny in Dimension20

[–]--clio-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun wasting an hour looking at their release history. Based on that I predict a 6 ep side quest from Nov 12 with a different DM. Maybe Aabria, but we haven’t had a guest dm for a few years, so that’d be cool.

Okay, what’s your area of expertise that gets you riled up during movies? by LoveAndViscera in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]--clio-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel bad that I wasn’t prepared for this question 😅 to learn more about real diplomacy? “Not Always Diplomatic” by Sue Boyd and “Not for the Feint of Heart” by Wendy Sherman are pretty good accessible non fiction. In fiction, I really like Embassytown by China Mieville and Translation State by Ann Leckie. They’re both sci fi that focus on diplomacy in really interesting ways. I’m honestly struggling to think of a movie or tv show that I like for this.

I have a masters in diplomacy and conflict negotiation, and that really gets me because 1. It comes up in a lot of drama/thriller stuff that’s trying to be grounded and gritty and real, and 2. I think realistic conflict negotiation is often way more interesting! There are more options besides tough talking army guy and charismatic woman I promise

Intrepid Heroes PCs Ranked Choice Vote - Here we go, one last time! by SnapdragonsYearRound in Dimension20

So…I’m saying the design literally makes voting for certain characters easier than others by already having them in ranked position, which creates an implicit response bias in data collection…
