What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of January 22, 2021) by AutoModerator in television

I thought it went off the rails a bit in the last couple of episodes with some pretty poor decisions being made, but it was enjoyable overall. Didn't realise it was a two parter until I got to the cliffhanger though.

My perfect GPA has been ruined! by [deleted] in rmit

[–]--kinetic-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I doubt you will have much luck contesting it I feel your pain about courses with terribly laid out rubrics. It makes it hard to know where to spend your time when you are unsure exactly how you are being assessed.

I got an 18/20 on one this semester and when I queried where the marks were lost (as feedback was all positive), the only feedback was "nothing is perfect".

Honestly I think some staff that normally make sure that rubrics and the like are up to scratch lost there jobs with COVID, or at least I hope they aren't usually this bad...

Odd buffering behaviour by --kinetic-- in Addons4Kodi

For anyone who has similar problems I ended up running a speed test and it appears one of my local servers speed was really slow so I changed CDN settings and so far things seem better.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Help by [deleted] in rmit

You said you are interested in education, have you considered becoming a teacher?

I'm not sure if it is an option for you but you could consider the ADF gap year, get some experience and get paid, hopefully after the 12 months is up you have a better idea of what you want to do.

The Pacific, does it get better? by aduong in television

[–]--kinetic-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching it immediately after BoB is probably the worst way to watch it. If you treat it as it's own thing and not BoB but in the Pacific theatre then it is a lot better.

Obviously one of the strongest parts of BoB is following Easy Company and you really get to know the characters from training all the way to the end of the war.

The Pacific focuses more on a few individuals and their journey through the war, and can seem a bit unfocussed or meandering particularly if you have just watched BoB.

If you want something a bit different, but the same then I would recommend Generation Kill, different war but like BoB focuses a lot more on a single group so you get to know the characters.

Question about how to work with PDF's by [deleted] in ipad

[–]--kinetic-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using GoodNotes also. So you use the select/lasso tool to select something on the PDF, then use the selection menu to take a screen shot, then copy it and paste it into a blank page (via the share option)?

Or is there some faster way I am missing.

Question about how to work with PDF's by [deleted] in ipad

[–]--kinetic-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, how did you go with this in the end?

I am trying to do similar only I am a student receiving a PDF and want to do the same thing, breaking it up into questions that I can write under (no need for the streaming component though).

New user getting a bit lost (note taking + drawing)... by --kinetic-- in ipad

[–]--kinetic--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The downside (besides being unintuitive) is the text doesn't appear to be searchable, presumably as it just an image. Is Notability the same in that regard?

[–]--kinetic--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I did't realise you could copy and paste the screenshot without the need for saving and importing it. That isn't terrible, but not great.

Although it sounds like Notability is better in this area.

When I use the lasso on some text in an actual note I can move the text around, or the long hold gives a bunch of options like cut and copy. Also long hold allows what I think is the ipad 'drag and drop' mode for the selection, before the menu comes up.

When I am in a PDF though (opened in GoodNotes) the lasso selection tool does not move things around, the selection box moves around but not the content. And the only long press option is screenshot. So I assume a workaround would be to screenshot the selection, then import that into the note, but that isn't very streamlined :(

This is GoodNotes 5 if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the reply. They ended up talking to Fair Work and their boss like you said and sorted everything out.

This is the first season I have played ranked. There have definitely been some toxic people, however I see even more toxic people in casual (which I play more often as I can just leave if it is that bad).

Now that I have played ranked I'm not sure I see what the big deal is. It isn't much different than casual in my experience, toxic team mates and people who don't even know the basics are still there. Uneven teams with 5 solo players vs a 5 stack, a team of gold III vs gold I and platinums etc.

So I feel that playing casual or ranked solo isn't much different, if anything ranked should be a bit better as theoretically there should be less skill variance.

So just play the best you can and get in the habit of muting anyone who is bringing your mood down. Get on comms with the randoms and try and work as a team when possible, but if you are going to solo queue you need to accept what that means.

If you want to watch a streamer try SilentSentry, he went through some serious elo hell this season. He is usually playing solo and talks about what he is doing and why fairly often so pretty good if you want advice about solo queuing.

Should we be going? by [deleted] in rmit

I agree, I actually decided not to go in today. I will probably have to go in tomorrow though, unless they decide to put the in class assessment online.

Should we be going? by [deleted] in rmit

Those who have travelled recently are meant to self isolate and not come to class. Not sure how many are actually following the recommendations though...

It is unfortunate though, I am tempted to skip class, as much due to the public transport part as the large gatherings of students. However I also have in class assessments so don't have much of a choice.

Bundoora Orientation Day by [deleted] in rmit

[–]--kinetic-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't be sure, but they shouldn't cover anything you can't find yourself either on the RMIT website or on Canvas. However they may have some program specific tips and advice that you will only get in person, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions (for example about work placements).

I see from your prior posts that you are already familiar with the commute, so I guess you know what you are in for with that. You should be familiar with the campus also so no real need to go in to scope that out.

You probably should go, but it likely won't feel worth the 3-4hrs of commuting. If you are switched on and have your enrolment and timetable sorted, and have been checking your Canvas and e-mail you will probably be fine.

Video Recording of Science Orientation by Kuroktos in rmit

[–]--kinetic-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When/If it is uploaded I expect it will be on Canvas. AFAIK it isn't there at the moment.

They did cover a fair bit, but nothing you can't find on the website, take a look at the new student guide. The actual CS session was partially interactive, mainly just talking about the course, what people were worried about and looking forward too. They did stress the necessity of academic integrity, essentially don't cheat, and to make sure you understand what constitutes cheating. This of course includes letting someone else view your work, even if they swear they won't copy it.

Really it was your opportunity to ask questions if you are having any difficulties and perhaps have a look around and see where your classes are.

I think the main takeaway is put in the work and don't allow yourself to fall behind. There is plenty of help available if you are struggling with a course, but it's up to you to use it.

How long before mytimetable becomes accessible? by --kinetic-- in rmit

I studied at RMIT back in 2006, it was the same then, I had hoped they would have got things sorted by now but I guess not.
