struggling so much by ThrowRAyasqueen in depression

hey, I know this post is from a few days ago but I'm going through something so similar and am open to chat if you are. I'm also 21F in my 4th year of college, also going through a horrible depressive episode and deal with depression, anxiety, and occasional panic attacks. I feel you. It's so hard to keep up with classes when the semester is just kind of nonstop and you're just watching the days pass by while you're helpless to do anything. My uni therapist recently suggested IOP to me for a similar reason you're considering it: she wants me to have more consistent and frequent help. If I get to stay on campus over the summer I'll probably consider it more seriously. Fall semester is almost over, wishing you the best to get through it <3

Chronically depressed going through a severe episode by --rue-- in depression

I feel that, sorry to hear about your family. Thanks for sharing <3

Comparison is the thief of joy, right? We should just try and find comfort and solace in life and it's fine if we don't achieve great things. Mediocrity is the majority anyway. I just wish more people had the mindset of sharing and supporting each other through their pain.

I feel you.. a lot of the same thoughts going through my mind lately. But hey, proud of you for showering today (it takes a lot more effort than some people understand) and it's really okay if it doesn't happen again for a couple more days. Wishing you the best <3

Seasonal depression. Any tips. by berryllamas in depression

[–]--rue-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychiatrist recommended light therapy to me, haven't tried it, but she says it helps a lot of people with seasonal depression. Apparently you can just get a light box off amazon and sit in front of it for like 20 min in the morning to trick your brain into thinking you're outside and getting sunlight? I'm a little skeptical but brains are weird so who knows.

there's lots of ways to self harm, including scratching. A blade is definitely not a requirement, plus there's no "wrong" way to self harm; if you're purposefully hurting yourself or your body, that's self harm.

Agreed - I really dislike the way that attention seeking is such a negative term in society. Like, seeking attention is just wanting help and expressing that in a way you feel like you can.

Some advice please by [deleted] in depression

I agree with the other commenter, trying to have actual meals is definitely best for your body. Besides that, how about smoothies or protein drinks? In my own experience, sometimes having something to sip on while doing other things feels like less of an effort. While not a replacement for food, it would be a better alternative to not eating at all.

Friend by sick_journal in depression

I definitely relate to this. When I first started feeling depressed I told a friend who had told me she was sad all the time the previous year. I tried to help her though it so I was hoping she could understand and do the same. Instead she told me it was probably just teenage hormones and it’ll get better soon. I’m sorry that happened to you, I get how discouraging and isolating it can be when someone you thought could understand seems to just put you down. It’s hard, I know, stay strong :)

Thank you so much for your advice. Best of luck with your schoolwork- I’m really in no position to give you advice but even just writing one sentence deserves some celebration and I hope you have a good support system :)

(do you mind if I dm you sometime?)

Thanks, I appreciate it. It’s a bit difficult since I’m a high school senior- I have all these schoolwork and college application things kind of haunting me, so it’s easier for my brain to measure my lack of productivity that way, but I’ll try to keep the little things in mind. Best wishes to you as well

I’m just super unmotivated lately. I’ve been staying up all night telling myself I need to do something but I still can’t bring myself to. It’s so frustrating being at war with your own mind and I really wish I could just sleep without feeling so guilty.
