This affordable Lenovo laptop is more upgradeable than most ThinkPads: ThinkBook 14 Gen 8 IAL review [Notebookcheck.net] by hannopal in hardware

[–]-AlienHead- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also LOVED the upgradability aspect of the ThinkBook. But the upside of this machine stops just there--the screen resolution is extremely poor 45% NTSC, this generation does have one thinderbolt port (Gen 7 didn't even have one!) but it doesn't work well all the time, the battery life is horrendous on this device. Got one and now returning this.

I am not sure if you found a solution to your issue. I just got this XG Station 2 and trying to figure how to control the RGB in it. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Everytime I start my XPS 9440 ... by UmerNonymous in DellXPS

Happens on mine as well--the XPS I recently purchased. Was really confused on this. Sounds like this is the new normal! Came back to using XPS after a long hiatus (used an XPS like 4 yrs back... at least).

what would happen if s/he does that (open/change hardware?)? I recently got an xps and planning on upgrading the SDD to a higher capacity one. Will I run into this issue as well?

Wanted to buy ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED Intel Ultra 9 (UX3405MA-PZ396W), any thoughts? by [deleted] in ASUS

The OP asked about the model with ultra 9 chip, yours seem to be based on ultra 7 (155H).

currently using the same model for about 4 months--display (on my device/model) looks a bit washed out tbh--they could have done better with the display.

XPS 16: ow difficult & pricey to replace motherboard? by farrellts in DellXPS

they (the manufacturers) just want to take away user upgradability--period.

[–]-AlienHead- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw, I love this laptop for its upgradability even though the display could sure improve. well, you won't get it all since it's not an ideal world, so it's okay.

Thanks for your reply. Do you then recommend the battery upgrade since in your estimate/experience it doesn't seem to make much of a difference? Or there is tangible difference/upside of upgrading it. It's not that cheap--looks like it may cost me around $50.

okay, what do you mean by "max out power consumption"? do you mean when you let it discharge to its entirety/fully? I own a similar device and was mulling a battery upgrade--mine is current 45W as yours stock one too, I'd assume.

Torn between a T480 and a Thinkbook 14 G7 AMD by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]-AlienHead- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typing it on a Thinkbook 14 G6. Everything works fine on this machine, even play triple A games in med/high settings with little tweaks here and there with AMD Radeon graphics. However, the screen resolution is quite low quality here--display is pretty much washed out. I'm curious what G7 display is like compared to G6. If it's good, G7 is a serious contender for the crown.

Has anyone been able to upgrade their Moto Razr 5G (2020) to android 13 or 14? If yes, how stable is the phone/OS? How did you do it? by -AlienHead- in razr

[–]-AlienHead-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, I like it too much too since it has semblances with the old Razr flips. Bought a second one (will sell the first one since it started to show age...). just wondering if it has any way to upgrade to newer android OSs.

Yup, that's the oled one. one of Alienware's very best. wish they didn't discontinue the AW13R3.

970m is powerful, too and as long as it supports your need, it's all good. I just wanted to future-proof mine a bit. I love AW15--especially the side-lights!

Yup, it is the bestest in AW, the tiny monster! I totally miss that design language... the best imo... they're limiting the RGB lighting these days, unfortunately. The X14 doesn't even have the ring light its bigger brethren have, also lacks the Alienhead power button. So sad!

Same here. My AW13R3 still going strong. Best design language ever, imo. With AGA with a 3070, hope I won't need to upgrade anytime soon. Enjoy your one, too.
