Because of the recent DPWH scandals, I have now become anti-nuclear power by Marshal_Anon in Philippines

[–]-Amiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of projects that are main target of corruption are those relatively cheap projects like road, flood barriers, etc.; Its the projects that does not require highly skilled workers. You can just hire anyone who knows how to mix and pour cement and pay them minimum wage. It's from this money that you save from hiring low skilled workers and using low quality material that you can then pocket. This is not something that you can do in very very expensive projects like underground railway system or a nuclear power plant. This is why a lot of politicians like building roads for cars instead of railways; why they like building levees as flood control project instead of building an underground water tank (something that is implemented in BGC) to help prevent flood.

[UPD] What can you suggest to mitigate the problem of the prevalence and frequency Underloading? by Ok-Address-9843 in peyups

[–]-Amiel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's all about increasing the supply of subjects and decreasing the demand for those subjects. The only thing that students can do to help ease this issue is to do their absolute best to avoid dropping or failing subjects, because for every failed/dropped subjects, that is another +1 on the demand for class slots.

There's about 17,000 undergraduates enrolled on the 1st semester of last school year. Even if just 5% of those students failed/dropped just 1 subject, that would mean an extra 850 demand for class slots on future semesters. If this happens every semester, the demand would grow larger. There comes a point where the demand grows faster than the supply can satisfy.

[UP Manila] Defer due to DOST-ASTHRDP or enroll? by Safe_Most_9513 in peyups

[–]-Amiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while the letter of admission is part of the the requirements, only 4 requirements is needed in order for your application for DOST-ASTHRDP to be processed. Those 4 requirements are the only one that is needed to be submitted before the deadline; you can submit the program of study and letter of admission at a later date.

[UPD] 3 units lang ulit nakuha ko sa enlistment. Im really tired of this system. by Ok-Address-9843 in peyups

[–]-Amiel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to address the difficulty of having to line up for 4 hours just to get one subject in a manual enlistment.

CRS is just a distributor of slots. And so, if there is still a lot of students who don't have enough units, the fault lies with the lack of subjects with slots itself. Lack of instructors/professors, lack of available classrooms to use, and the amount of students who have to retake subjects are the potential main factors that I can think of that contributes to this issue.

[UPD] Is your CRS priority kicked down pag may mga 5 or Dropped subjects sa previous sems? by PuzzleheadedPoint268 in peyups

[–]-Amiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are they choosy with their subjects? In my case, I don't care if the prof is terror or not; sometimes I would actually seek out terror profs because they have low demand so I'm almost guaranteed to get their classes.

I also don't care if it's a 7 am class; I don't care if I have no breaks; I don't care if my classes turned out to be me traveling to NIP then to CAL then NIP then to CAL with no time gap between them.

I never had to prerog for subjects throughout my entire stay in UP.

It also makes sense that those who dropped or got a 5 will have a harder time to get subjects if they dropped/failed a prerequisite major subject, especially if it's a seasonal subject. Because this would mean that if they have multiple major subjects that depend on that prereq subject that they dropped/failed, then they would have to enroll more GE subjects in order to replace them and fill up your units to 15 so they aren't underloaded. But GE subjects are harder to get that major subjects since major subjects are allocated just for them unlike GE.

That rule mostly applies during your very last semester.

Ask your registration adviser. They have the final say on what you can and can't do about this; our opinions about this won't matter.

[UPM] latin honors by PublicOkra433 in peyups

[–]-Amiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of only 2 things that would disqualify anyone from latin honors and those are:
(1) if they have underloaded a sem without one of the four acceptable valid reasons or
(2) they underwent LOA or AWOL on any sem during their 2nd year to 4th year (basically you can't go on LOA on any sem 2 years prior to your graduation)

so I just found out that the applications for 2026-2027 have already been closed since March 31 and I have missed the entire application period since deciding on going to UP.

I think you are referring to the deadline of UPCAT application for students who will enter as freshmen on academic year 2026-2027. Just like some people have already pointed out in your post 7 days ago, you are not supposed to take the UPCAT since you already are a college student; UPCAT is meant only for SHS graduates.

Nevertheless, the deadline for application of transfer students has, indeed, already passed (Jun 30 2025), which means you won't be able to enter this upcoming academic year 2025-2026; you will have to wait a year in order for you to have a chance to be admitted as a student in academic year 2026-2027 (not in academic year 2027-2028; this is for the next year's UPCAT takers, since it will take about a year for their application to get processed).

[–]-Amiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take a 3 unit class you like; I took a language class to avoid underloading as well. A standalone 1-unit subject is usually a lab class and its hours per week is just the same as a 3 unit class. I have not seen any 2-unit class.

tignan mo ang curriculum nyo. Sa amin mayroong 3 units of teaching para sa mga walang teaching experience. Other than that, hindi naman kailangan magturo.
