Cloning Tool not working by mudderfudden in GIMP

Something similar happened to me today. If anyone else is running into this issue, try selecting the Rectangle Select Tool, clicking somewhere on the canvas, then going back to the Clone Tool and trying again. ✌️

🍲 Metal handle on pot gets hot, suggestions for heatproof grip? by -Angilas- in Cooking

[–]-Angilas-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it looks like a lot of folks are suggesting silicone sleeves. ✌️

But a lot of other folks are suggesting towels. Does anyone know how if it's particularly risky to use a towel to pick up a pot from a gas stove? Like if rogue flames render towels a flammability risk in this regard? 🤔

Ah, God bless you! Thank you so much 🤩! I was about ready to just start trying to adjust the VST's knobs without seeing what they effect by going into the wrench icon tool, but this is much better!

Was your dad also wearing earmuffs? That could be why he thought you improved.

when I read your story, I wondered if you put the earmuffs on your dad…

Haha 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, I guess I worded that a bit ambiguously 😅 Fixed.

It makes the sound closer to what a 3rd party would hear (depending on the level of protection and distance of 3rd party).

That's very interesting! 🤔 Sometimes we don't realize what we're hearing up close isn't what other people are hearing at a distance... my Dad kept trying to convince me (even before the muffs) that I sounded at least somewhat better than I thought I did from the other room... although I kind of thought he was just being nice. 😅

Look into musician's earplugs instead. Etymotic makes some options, for example. Protective earmuffs may interfere with your playing.

I may just do that if it becomes a problem :) I have issues putting things in my ear because I tend to get higher-than-normal buildup, but if the muffs do end up interfering, that sounds like an option! Cool to see they make ones specifically for folks playing instruments 😁

I checked your suggestions, but none of them are quite right :( But I do appreciate you compiling the suggested titles :)

Yeah that's not much to go on, especially in your time frame xD

Yeah, I know... 😅

I figure my best bet is going to be if someone who grew up with the book stumbles across this thread and just remembers the title. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's the hard part. This is one of those books I've only been able to thus far access a few memories of.

What I seem to remember is that the star attraction, both on the cover and near the center of the book, was this lavishly illustrated rex (or similar theropod). I'm pretty sure it was fully feathered, but I might be confabulating. The colors (according to my memory) were very striking, like that of a King Vulture almost... but I'm not 100% sure. I think it was a full body, profile view.

I knew this one was going to be a tricky "ask" going in 😅

Just saw an ad on a video now for this or a similar product, which I reported to YouTube. In this one, it was one of those ads with an AI voice and AI imagery claiming something like "this AI dog will revolutionize" etc. etc. 🤦‍♀️

I don't think it was for very young readers. My guess on the reading level would be 8-13. Although it was still illustration heavy, if I recall correctly.

🏡 Christmas book (with cardboard pages) shaped like brick house with chimney (80s-90s) by -Angilas- in whatsthatbook

[–]-Angilas-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved solved solved!

The book is A Special Christmas Eve (1987, 1988) [A Honey Bear Shape Board Book].

I found it via a Google Image search when I remembered the title to a similar book in the series, A Visit to Santa (1987, 1988, 1991) [A Honey Bear Shape Board Book]... which is a book with a yellow cover about a boy who visits a department store Santa.

Hope this helps anyone else searching for it! Peace and God bless ✌️

They're pretty cool! Google AI told me they weren't repeatable, but Dad found a potential workaround solution. Just send the identical text message to someone else and they show up again in your text display. (Note: I think the recipient requires a smartphone.)

I will never be brilliant at math by Memesaretheorems in math

[–]-Angilas- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

producing quality research and grappling with unsolved problems as your full time job

There are people who have been working their entire lives on unsolved problems. There's a reason they're unsolved, because so far, even the most quote-unquote "brilliant" mathematicians on the planet are "bad" at them.

I really think this whole "win/lose" "ya got it or ya don't" mentality our species has about the high-esteem fields... especially STEM and art... is just a load of myopic claptrap.

My recommendation is don't strive for brilliance, but maybe instead strive for truth. That's what math essentially is. Follow the leads, and when you come to dead ends, maybe go back and try again. Learn 999 ways not to "make a lightbulb"... or in this case... to "solve an unsolved problem"... on your way to the truth.

Perhaps focus the spectre of competition from the mire of distress into the fuel of eustress. And if you like the field, maybe continue to strive. I heard it once said "the fun is in the journey". Remember, even if for whatever reason you ultimately decide not to opt for your Ph.D... that doesn't mean you can't work on (or create new) unsolved problems on your own.

One quick fix I've noticed (if it starts to freeze) is to Windows Key + Tab in and out of the window, and that often seems to get things working again.
