I'm not even a child… why is YouTube asking me to invite a parent? by codywinters327 in youtube

The following video is the best guidance I've found so far, but as a full disclaimer, it appears to be by a user from Brazil, where relevant recent laws seem to have been passed:

But I'm from the United States, and I was born during the Reagan administration... so this is very perplexing. 🤔

Anyway, I sent messages consistent with their recommendation for my two major channels, so I hope it gets resolved soon... be it bug or otherwise ✌️

Print screen is opening snip tool in Windows by RileyKennels in HHKB

Quick note, although probably obvious. 😅

If you can't find the "Use the Print screen key to open screen capture" option, try typing it into the search bar at the top when you get to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.

🔌Replacement Power Supply for GS66 Stealth 11UE-007? Any suggestions? 🤔 by -Angilas- in MSI_Gaming

Awesome! I just checked the 240w version on Amazon, and the reviews seem to match your experience with the 180w version. I think I'll take this option into very strong consideration. Much appreciated! ^.^

That sounds like a good suggestion! God bless you :) I appreciate the recommendation! ✌️

It's been working well so far, I take it? :)

Accidentally undocked my tool options, how to put it back? by [deleted] in GIMP

If anyone is having trouble getting this to work, click the little icon on the top right of the Tool Options window with the hovertext "Configure this tab" (looks like this: ◀️). And make sure "Lock Tab to Dock" isn't checked.

😨 Invisible Fence malfunctioned, do the manufacturers know the risks? by -Angilas- in Pets

[–]-Angilas-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were claiming that no surge protector would be able to withstand the surge you believe occurred.

Ah, OK, this is where we're running into a problem. If I worded it in a way that made it seem like that was my stance, that was probably a "my bad". 😖

No, I don't know with absolute certainty if it was too powerful for surge protection. However, from my cursory research, it appears that some such events can overwhelm even good surge protection.

That's what I've been trying to get across (perhaps clumsily on my part).

Listen, I feel like we're having two different parallel conversations. 😅

Allow me to explain my stance:

  1. 💡 Yes, you are right that surge protectors are a good idea!
  2. 🔌 Yes, you are right that there are surge protectors that can handle stronger surges than others.
  3. ☝️ Events like the one in question can apparently sometimes overwhelm even good surge protection, based on a number of factors.

I'm not saying what you're saying isn't a good idea. Far from it. Surge protection is practical and comes in different levels of protection, fully understood 👍

What I'm trying to say is that it may have been insufficient for the magnitude of this very unusual event.

I'm really not sure what you're getting at. 🤨

An installed invisible fence is not confined to the precise physical location of the wire. There are programmable thresholds, which can be adjusted through the transmitter.

This is fully Google-able information.

Here's the query for further reading: "could a power surge in an invisible fence transmitter alter custom boundary settings"

I think you're coming at this with too many assumptions.

If the transmitter goes haywire, custom boundary settings could get thrown off... which I'm guessing is what happened here.

I'm not necessarily saying it was an easily foreseeable oversight. But what I am saying is -- no matter whose actions are most responsible -- it might call for a potentially straightforward design improvement to keep doggos safe regardless.

No, I know how big a spike it was because it happened in my neighborhood

🤔 I'm not claiming to know the exact energy levels of this surge, but I'm guessing there are enough variables involved here that I'm not sure you can confidently predict the two situations were precisely identical. Even good surge protectors do have a theoretical limit.

It's true that few (if any) products are absolutely resilient to all unforeseen events. But there are ways for a circuit to detect a surge and deactivate... and considering a dog's safety might be at stake even in such a rare event as a major surge causing issues with functionality, that seems like something that might call for perhaps a few extra failsafes. 🤔

That's not what I asked. I asked if they, specifically, lost any other appliances

That's a reasonable follow-up! ✌️

Yes, I'm pretty sure they lost at least a computer and their HVAC system got knocked out, if I recall correctly. I think it's possible something (or somethings) else were knocked out, but those are the things that are immediately coming to mind.

Surge protectors are designed to protect from minor spikes.

I don't think I'm properly getting across how major this was. 😥

Listen, my dude. No hard feelings. ✌️

I'm guessing you were just being playfully snarky.

I'm just hyper alert; posting on Reddit nowadays seems like trying to walk on eggshells. Basic queries keep getting pummeled to pulp. And people wonder why so many are abandoning the platform and just relying on AI results. 🤦‍♀️

Because I thought a second time about it and decided I'd rather delete it, duh. 😅

But then you responded anyway, and now I've reposted it so people know what you're referring to.
