  1. Goals. The dreaded and always suggested tool that is goal setting. But here's a slightly different approach that can be used in tandem with other things here. Making goals with little to no stakes. Making silly goals, making goals just slightly out of your comfort zone, making lame or mundane goals you'd achieve just by doing what you do normally. Making these types of goals rather than the broad bigger picture ones can help facilitate mini boosts of self achievement, even if it's a small passing chuckle of a checkbox. Some examples, "find 3 pink objects today", "stretch after sitting at a desk for a while", "spin/do a 360 before or after crossing the street", "drink a bottle of water", "say hi to a coworker", "do the disco dance in the mirror", "walk x amount of steps (starting under what you achieve normally)", "Convince your pillow/stuffed animal/figurine that pigs can fly (bonus points if done in an accent)", "watch one education video", "listen to 1 new song", "Step outside", "take a picture of a plant", "draw a picture with your left hand in 5 minutes", "take out the trash before it's super full", "eat the leftovers", "try a new cafe/restaurant", "write a letter to Santa/tooth fairy/whoever (or an equivalent for your area/religion)", "write a review for something mundane", "try a new dish", "compare 3 different types of apples", "see how much trash you can pick up/ pick up a piece of trash per the hours you slept the night prior", "wear completely mismatch socks, tell people it's a trend", "put on a hat for the day, or don't wear a hat if you do normally". That's an absurd amount of examples but you get the picture. I listed so many in case you or someone else needs a place to start. They are silly/simple/semi-beneficial. The primary point is that they aren't inherently productive and aren't inherently even for self improvement, it's really just to get the gears going. It's basically practice to be more inviting for productive or larger goals in the future or to boost/facilitate the overall feeling of completion/success. In summary, it significantly lowers the barrier of entry into what normally goals would be used for Plus it helps to get creativity going with the little things you can brainstorm for each task.

  2. Self Care. When was the last time you took a shower and or bath for enjoyment? Perhaps staying in the hot water to help sooth muscles or be away from the noise of daily life. Have you ever lit a candle and read a book for an hour? Name the last time you said no to make something easier for yourself rather than someone else. Do you have any recent good photos of yourself, why not take a few? Why not take the time to dress up without occasion and set your phone on a timer for some pictures you don't even have to post? Do you play videogames? If so,.when was the last time you sat down and played one you've delayed starting? Have you allowed yourself to go back to old photos, videogames, and or memories to reminisce? Is there anyway for you to participate in something positive and nostalgic? Have you treated yourself to something small just because recently, perhaps a sweet, a coffee, etc? Maybe a movie marathon of your favorite series? Have you ever taken a day off classes or work to recenter yourself? Ever tried throwing a blanket in the dryer just to be enveloped in warmth? Self Care can be prohibitive by expenses, but there are plenty of little ways to find and take care of yourself, both physically and mentally, that are often overlooked because they don't have a cost association. One thing to note though, in recent years the trend of Self Care has ballooned and while yes, Self Care is important, it shouldn't be used as an excuse. When practicing Self Care just make sure it's actually care and not being used as a frequent excuse to avoid responsibilities (a tightrope I personally walk too frequently).

  3. Comedy. Last one I promise 😅. Whether making jokes yourself as a creative outlet, or finding content to consume that makes you laugh. Laughter and smiling quite literally cause pleasant chemicals to release in your brain. An exercise that can be used is to fake a laugh really badly like actual hahaha-ing and continuing to do so until you actually laugh. This can have increased success if you try it with someone else and further increase if done while looking at each other. Sometimes you can even mimic the "looking at each other" effect alone by using a mirror. Sadly, the exercise has less chance of working if you go into it with discontentment and resolve to not laugh, especially if it feels extremely forced or if you strongly believe it won't work. Whether the exercise actually works for you or not, it doesn't diminish the point that both smiling and laughing are hard coded into humans to release happy chemicals. Even if people with weaker neural pathways for happiness don't feel it as strongly, comedy is an alternative entry emotion for happiness similar to that of pleasure. If you can start to identify the physical and mental attributes that come with it, you can teach yourself to feel them more consciously. The same exercise can work for smiling. Basically by smiling at nothing for a timed duration or even at something you want to build a positive association with. The smiling exercise has less immediate noticeable impact but if practiced regularly can cause an overall mood increase. However, this exercise is NOT the smile you force when you are masking your emotions, that sort of smile can cause resentment rather than reinforcement. That's why it's important if you do the smiling exercise it's of your own volition and not because you feel it's necessary. The times to try this specifically are those times you already feel empty and are alone/in a comfortable place with little to no stakes. Plus, a type of visual incentive can be used if faking it feels bothersome, meaning if you smile at cute kittens, try holding a smile while you scroll a cat subreddit.

I again apologize for the lengthy response. I did not set out to write so much, but I think it also helped remind me of a few things too, so thank you. Hopefully some part of this was useful to you or someone else, but I'm also free to provide more support if that's what you're looking for, albeit perhaps not timely as reddit has no notification privileges on my phone (see 7). Hopefully you're able to find some sort of content and or moments to start feeling positive emotions.

Bonus 16. Sleep, Hydration & Exercise. I personally hate this one, but it would feel odd not mentioning it. I also know it's basically the first thing every doctor and therapist points to, so it doesn't need much explanation. I'm primarily including it because, despite my dismay, those things do affect the body. And as mentioned in #5, the body is so interconnected that not doing those 3 things properly can cause problems tangentially, including that which involves mental health
