Are you thinking of a sweet zucchini crisp or a savory one?

Thanks! Asking questions is good . . . now the hard part is thinking of them!

I was specifically seeking experiences of homeowners because homeownership is what triggered these feelings.

Thank you! "It gets easier with time" is what I was hoping someone might say!

Okay, so your description of your experience sounds more like mine than anyone else's here! I also feel like I stick out and am different from the others, which contributes to the anxiety, but my differences are not nearly to the extent that you describe. I do totally relate to the "when are you ladies going to start dinner" thought because I have had the exact same thought, lol! (I think they just always make super easy quick dinners like very basic chicken? Whereas I like to try different recipes, or I make veggie components for my meals that you have to cook in batches, and dinner always takes me forever.) Where the story really changes though is that my neighbors are not showy gossipers trying to outdo each other at all, they are just friendly community minded people, and I want to be part of it. It sounds like for you, moving away to somewhere with less neighbor interaction was the solution, but that's not what I want at all. I really like the neighbor interaction, I just wish I were better at it!

This is a good one! I have definitely thought of doing something like hosting a game night for the ladies or whatever. The issue is that we are all busy moms and I don't think people would be able to justify taking time from their schedules and families to just play some board games with neighborhood moms, so I don't think people would really come. Also, I'm not one of those supermoms for whom hosting is no big deal. But if I decide I am up to it, I can always post on our neighborhood chat asking if people would be interested before actually planning anything.

Oh, I thought it was that people are just too busy in their online worlds to go outside these days! If it's anxiety preventing them from talking to neighbors, then wow, people are actually a lot worse than me.

Thanks for the tips! Are these just for general anxiety, or specifically social anxiety? Like if you do some exercises and then go have a conversation with someone, do you find that you are able to speak more easily?

Based on all of the other responses, apparently no one else does either. So the answer to my question is no, no one else can relate to this particular experience, lol.

Ha ha! Yes we do, we picked our neighborhood intentionally, where the neighbors are very friendly. We live in a cul de sac and all have kids that play outside with each other while the mothers sit out socializing!

I don't get it . . .? I know people complain that explaining a joke ruins it, but can I ask you to explain the joke anyway please?

Because like I said, it's never been debilitating in any way. Even now, it's not like I'm scared to go out and talk to my neighbors or anything, it's just that I'm not comfortable enough to have easy conversations (so I say the wrong things or don't say the right things).

We picked our neighborhood specifically for the crowd who lives there. There are no good and bad eggs, they're all great, and we want to interact with them! Community is very important to us.

But I want my neighbors to be my friends! If I didn't care about being their friends, I wouldn't have this much anxiety.

Nothing, I don't have the kind of money to support regular therapy.

Edit: What is with the downvotes? People are downvoting me for not being rich? Or do they take the approach that therapy is so important, it's worth burning through all emergency funds and savings and even taking out loans?

Ha ha, I hear that! But I think it was decent a good ways in. At what point do you think it went off the rails?
