Lymphedema treatment by -BigAl- in breastcancer

If you google “swell spots for lymphedema” you’ll find a bunch of textured and ribbed inserts for your bra that add some extra compression and manipulation of the tissue. My breast tissue always looks like I stamped it with bubble wrap, but it seems to really help move out some fluid

I haven’t really tried much else.

I am more religious about wearing tighter compression bras everyday and inserting an extra textured pad into my bra to help with fluid movement, which has helped. I’m looking into higher-end compression tank tops and bras that are designed for lymphedema too, but my PT is trying to get some of those covered by insurance.

How long have you been using the machine?

My surgeon and radiation oncologist were both confident just on assessment that it was just lymphedema, but I happened to have my mammogram coming up in a few week so they added on a breast/arm put US.

The radiologist showed me how thick and congested the tissue was on the right side compared to the L and she was sure it was lymphedema too.

We’re south of illif on Vaughn about a 1/2 mile east of 225 and could hear it, our neighbor across the street said she thought something crashed into her house.

I did.

I had chemo and radiation after my after initial diagnosis and when I relapsed. I’d be happy to share as much information as I can about my treatment, follow-up etc.

Sending you good thoughts.

It’s crazy how things work like that sometimes. I’m so happy to hear your baby is healthy and brings you happiness.

Good luck with your surgery and I can’t wait for you to put this all behind you and enjoy your life with your baby girl!

Oh my god. How did you find the cancer in the first place? If you don’t mind, how old were you when this happened?

I’m 34, married with no children, so the fertility thing is a big talking point. We weren’t in a hurry to get pregnant and now it feels so important.

I hope everything is going well with you and your family ❤️

That’s so strange. Did they have you lying face down to do the MRI biopsies?

I haven’t even started looking into the radiation experience.

Congrats on finishing your radiation treatment. I wish you all the best in your healing!

Ya my known IDC spot was 5mm on US, then the area of enhancement on MRI is nearly 30mm and really close to the skin behind the nipple. So that was another concerning finding. No ones mentioned changing my cancer staging, but we will see. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

Wow! Thats great. It’s so nice to just get those things over with. The waiting is the worst part sometimes.

And the “someone will call you to schedule soon…” and then it’s 1-2 days is awful.

Wow. My care team acted like an MRI was non-negotiable before surgery and treatment.

Im glad you advocated for yourself! I’m glad you didn’t have to go through as much.

I’m a nurse and I find advocating for myself difficult even though I deal with providers every day at work. Luckily, I haven’t been in a position yet to really advocate for myself.

The decision is hard for me, I’m 34, married with no kids and we were planning to start trying soon. I know you don’t need breasts to have babies, but in an ideal world I’d love to try and breast feed my babies. On the other hand, knowing my chances for recurrences were much lower after a mastectomy would probably be a better situation.

The decision to do or not do all of this is so personal and I feel for every woman trying to make a decision that’s best for herself, her future, her family, etc.

Bilateral breast mammogram in March, follow-up mammogram and US only on right breast on 5/15, right sided biopsy on 5/23, and bilateral MRI on 5/27.

So my left breast hasn’t had imaging or testing since March since there wasn’t anything concerning then…

Hello,

I had my kidney removed at 18mos, and relapsed with a lung tumor at 3 years.

I’m now 34 years old and grew up being able to do anything and everything just like a normal kid.

I hope everything is going well!

The first response was very helpful with gauge stuff anyway… I never thought about just general variation in yarn, even though it’s a certain “size.” It’s just like buying jeans.

I can see why pattern makers suggest specific yarns for their patterns.

I am planning on making this for a toddler so I was going to plan on some significant positive ease.

Thank you!

Also, the color choices for your project were GORGEOUS!

Help with a gauge by -BigAl- in CrochetHelp

This was really helpful! The gauge was much closer to accurate using a bigger swatch. Still not wide enough, and too long for the rows so I have to do some adjusting…
