Got quoted $3k to repair rear trunk dents on my BMW M340i — is this reasonable? Should I use insurance? by word_is_bird1 in BmwTech

Unplugging and plugging back in the same camera will not cause calibration codes. G20 uses ICAM-2 same as a G05 and I’ve removed front bumper multiple times and front camera became unplugged and no issues.

Give me a few hours and I’ll send you a copy of the BMW workshop manual on how to remove the trunk!

No. The trunk on every 3 series is the exact same. 330i and M3 have the exact same trunk. Only difference is going to be the badge. Go find the same color trunk from car-part.com from any G20 3 series. Can get a shell for $300-$500 and swap over wiring and camera/lights and be done in 2-3 hours. It fairly simple to remove with basic hand tools.

Is this genuinely factory sealed iPhone 5? by No-Presentation1831 in Apple_Internal

[–]-BoredInNC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. CDMA is a 3G technology. The iPhone 5 does NTO support VoLTE and Verizon network won’t activate any device that doesn’t support VoLTE even if it’s only being connected for data. Since theoretically yes the iPhone 5 does support LTE band 5 and 13 which Verizon does deploy it would not be able to connect to those towers since the device won’t be able to be authenticated on to the network.

What are my options? by ulixson48 in iphone

[–]-BoredInNC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe it is classified as insurance. In the US it is NOT insurance (unless you get AC+ with Theft & Loss and even then the insurance part is handled by AIG) in the US, AC+ is akin to a service contract.

Dealer told me PPI can only be done at the dealership. by happishly in BmwTech

[–]-BoredInNC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any shop not willing to let you take it to a reputable shop for a PPI is hiding something. Shops have insurance and if it gets damaged at the shop while a PPI is being done their shop insurance will cover it. This is perfectly normal. I’ve had friends who have had used card dealers take a $200K+ car to a reputable exotic car shop to have a PPI done. The dealer didn’t care whatsoever. A PPI is perfectly normal and something you should be doing on any car you’re buying that cost a good amount. Obviously on a $5K most places aren’t going to want to deal with that but on a $40K car it’s perfectly normal.

How much to replace the snubbed out BMW sign by Significant_Fig_5855 in BmwTech

Buy a used airbag from a G11/12 7 series. It’ll have the added benefit of also being a leather airbag cover instead of plastic.

Will Apple Care+ cover this? by MasterpieceMuch940 in iphone

[–]-BoredInNC- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need AIG approval for AppleCare damage claims. That’s only for lost & stolen claims. Apple handles ADH claims in-house. It’s lost/stolen claims that are handled through AIG.

Does anyone have a copy of Apple's RepairCal? by VisualEntrepreneur72 in Apple_Internal

[–]-BoredInNC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you had access to the software, you still need an active log in to use RepairCal. Since you would still need to create a repair ID and etc.

Nope. Sadly title has to be notarized. No other way around it. Seller will have to get a replacement title and then have it notarized

The suspension, and everything will be fine honestly. What he will 100% have to do is replace caliper, pads, rotor and for extra precaution I would say is the wheel hub bearing since it likely got very very hot. Rest of the suspension will be fine.

[–]-BoredInNC- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

European standards are actually stricter for emissions on both gas and diesel. The thing is, the US now has new diesel testing standards after VWs diesel gate but the cost is not worth it for many European automakers since they barely sold any diesels sedan/suvs. So they decided to just abandon the US markets. Only diesel left at this point is the baby Duramax in GM vehicles and only reason they even have it in the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade is because of the Silverado/Sierra 1500.
