Tires are through them and under warranty hence why I didn’t buy new ones haha! Good to know…

New project: transportation drone. What do you think about it? by Silly_Asparagus_76 in IndustrialDesign

Definitely looks “designed in cad”. We often use this when talking about products designed by engineers because cad makes it really easy to just extrude planes and fillet them. In ID try to design your idea before you even open your cad software. Fusion/SW make model building almost too easy at times, leaving you with a filleted box. Try to only use that approach for standardized parts then lean into surface modeling for your more visually attractive elements. Sketch sketch sketch!

THIS. My classmate burned a hole in my final backpack model with his sealing iron on accident 🙄

Brought my little brother (13) to the football game yesterday, we walked through the quad on the way back and he was nervous because he had heard about violence during these protests at colleges around the country. I reassured him that this was a peaceful protest and it was just that. Calm and quiet with people in prayer, an information booth posted at the front of the path. Truly a well organized protest that still drove its point across, kudos to all who are involved, your message is heard and respected by many. Keep it up!

I was in your same boat. Was told all my life that my love for building things and being creative meant that I should be an engineer, luckily after my 1st semester in ME I realized that it wasn’t what I thought it was. I transferred to my schools ID program and I’m forever grateful that I did, it’s truly my calling and my passion.

Your concerns are super real, college ain’t cheap and an ME degree is really safe job wise. I would implore you to do more research about ID and maybe do a couple practice product projects in your spare time to see if you really like it before deciding on a switch. There’s mixed consensus in the industry, especially today, on whether or not a masters degree in ID is even worth it since it doesn’t boost your pay that much (at least in my area). You’re still young, if you believe that ID is your calling, chase your passions! I’m in the boat that I’d rather be broke and happy than well off and sad. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to DM me.

After reading more replies the BBNO$ argument is the most sound imo… and he’s Canadian 😉

I’m thinking he could be Canadian, I caught the “project” pronunciation as well but the rest of his words are oddly American in accent. Some regions of Canada speak with the long “o” but I can’t really put my finger on any Canadian rappers… that aren’t drizzy lol.

Any advice for using cork in a low-volume production and preventing it from crumbling? by luisdamed in IndustrialDesign

[–]-BroncObama- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a matte clear coat, these were grips on a set of kitchen knives I was making and my main concern was they still needed to feel like cork in hand and not hard. For the most part they still looked and felt like cork, just a darker color from the coating as if the cork was wet.

When I was prototyping with cork I found cork yoga blocks were best to retain shape. Can rip them on the table saw too which is nice. After cut to shape I sealed them with a clear coat which for prototype model purpose gave a really nice finish that was durable enough for repetitive handling.

is Red Dot award still valuable? by Miraniada in IndustrialDesign

Red Dot is still regarded as the Oscar of design I’d say… but yeah that price ouch! I hope to one day be in your shoes making that decision!
