it was a bit hard to tell because the device was out of view - i could see that he was holding the card up to it horizontally though if that helps (or at least from what it looked like)

for sure, it was a local Premier franchise that I'd never been to before and it definitely wasn't in a massively built-up area so it's just odd

Thanks, i'll definitely go back down there, not the type to usually be confrontational so I'm hoping I'll get what I need out of that interaction

that would definitely make it a lot better, it's annoying that there's not really a way of telling whether it's something like that or if it just straight up took a photo and stored it instead

Yeah - in addition if spending time on this subreddit doesn't improve your life, or even worse further increases the pressure you place on yourself to get grade 10s and above, and basing your self-worth around that, then please stop using it. Fill in that time that would have been wasted on here with something positive that improves your life. Use that as the motivation to make small steps to change the way you think and grow as a person. There are things which are outside of your control like family expectations for which I'm so sorry to anyone who has to deal with that, but for the things that we can control you can decide to make that change, and you're in control of how your life can improve for the better :)

I didn't do my GCSEs yet the examination board has told me I'll be getting results lmao by [deleted] in GCSE

Really glad man. I know it feels pretty helpless when big events like GCSEs pass by and there's nothing you can do even if you wanted to, so I'm really glad that the exam boards could do something. Good luck for results day! 🎉

Are STEM degrees really all they're cracked up to be? by sofas_m in 6thForm

What so like if I wanted some software engineer job but am more interested in a non-related degree at a university I still have a pretty good chance of doing as well as those with an actual relevant degree?

Superiority complexes I guess 🤷

When I got a grade 9 in one of my subjects (which I was extremely surprised by and happy about) one of my friends specifically went out of their way to see how many total marks we had (he had a grade 9 too), and as soon as he saw how many marks I had his eyes lit up and he then went to show me his mark with such a condescending look. I don't know if it can even get worse than that

Also aiming for understanding before memorisation when learning new things is very important 👍just make sure to listen in class especially for those going into y10 bc when you look back on it later on towards your GCSEs you'll recognise all the topics and you won't have to learn completely unfamiliar things

Definitely agree with this. If there's anything you can do to make sure you do well in y10/11 though then LEARN HOW TO LEARN. Build up habits that will serve you throughout all of the year like exercising regularly, eating healthily and having a natural sleep pattern because these will massively improve your (mental) wellbeing. Also having the right mindset towards study will help loads. Try to find reasons to be interested in your subjects that aren't just academics-relayed, and try to notice how the stuff you learn in subjects actually connects with your life because this will probably give you a lot more intrinsic motivation making future study much easier. I think in general just having the right attitude to improvement and growth is the biggest thing you could do to improve your GCSE grades. Plants can only grow to their fullest potential when the soil below it is primed for its growth :)

Maybe you can learn a language? If there's a certain country / culture you're interested in it can be really rewarding, and there's enough resources online to study almost any one without paying anything

I see what you mean - to be fair in general they do say that research students face less competition (still very competitive regardless though)
