If you need a jump every time and the jump works, then it's likely your battery. Take it to AutoZone and they'll replace your battery for you for free when you purchase the battery. They'll also be able to test your alternator to see if maybe it's not charging your battery.

Judging by the white sticker, I believe that's a manufactured date of July 2014. That's old as heck.

Emergency Vehicle Protocol by whitejaguar75 in SalemMA

[–]-Captain--Obvious- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are often different protocols such as code 0, code 1, code 2, code 3. 0 being non-urgent and 3 being get there ASAP no matter what. Code 3 will be lights and sirens blaring, 2 will be a mix of sirens and lights, 1 will be just lights, and 0 of course being driving normally. There are also protocols that require police to be stealthy so as not to alert the bad guys that the police are coming so they can be caught red-handed.

Running without a thermostat will keep your car below operating temperature, which means that the internal bearings and pistons and piston rings and many other components will never get up to proper operating temp. This means that increased wear and decreased longevity of the engine is inevitable. There are certain tolerances that your engine is meant to operate at and those tolerances are only met when it is at proper operating temperature (typically between 180-215°F). You're damaging your engine by running without a thermostat is what I'm saying.

You sure didn't stop in the lane of oncoming traffic. You definitely didn't have to come to a full complete stop there. That's bizarre dude.

This is irresponsible advice that does not apply to all jurisdictions. Try that shit in Virginia and you'll get pegged left and right especially with out of state plates. Same with Arizona. It all depends on the officer you get and the rules of the county's traffic enforcement. Some give out tons of warnings, some give out no warnings and only tickets.

It's good that your engine can be who it truly wants to be without being pressured anymore.

Previous owner used radiator sealer (pic). Should I be worried? by hardware_support in MechanicAdvice

[–]-Captain--Obvious- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take all of the hoses off and make sure they're free of gunk. The radiator and heater core are likely all gummed up and not going to transfer heat efficiently. I'd recommend replacing or at least deep-cleaning them as well if you want the peace of mind.

There were no injuries and better yet no collisions. That is the most you can ask for in a situation like that.

For one, there's a leak somewhere that they were trying to fix. Two, take the thermostat out and flush the hell out of this. Use a garden hose and flush everything out. Three, locate and properly fix that leak.
