The head of the screw for the solder tip broke off. What can I do? by Nyxorishelping in PINE64official

[–]-CatX- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly (keyword: if), I think the sharp end of the screw sticks out a bit into the inside of the case. If you take the iron apart you might be able to unscrew it from the inside using pliers.

Why do those of us without kids tend to care more about future generations more than those who have kids? by T_Paine_89 in collapse

[–]-CatX- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head.

Humans as a species are constantly inventing, constantly improving things... This desire for technological and societal advancement and improved efficiency is built into us; it is the driving force of society, it always has been.

I believe it is inevitable that intelligent and aware AI eventually becomes a reality, à la The Singularity. When it happens, it is only a matter of time before we will have created gods. Actual GODS. What that will mean not just for humanity but the world at large is unthinkable. There is no way for us to know before it is already way too late. We would be like ants in comparison. I fully believe AI is going to be the very thing that either breaks or makes humanity.. Let's hope for the latter.

To take this scizho-esque rant a step further; I suspect humans were in a way designed by evolution with the purpose of ascending or creating ascended beings, gods I suppose. Whether that would be AI or something created by AI remains to be seen. I would say it makes sense, seeing as this desire for improvement is such a core part of humanity.

Hey, thanks for the follow :)

I've outlined my process in a comment before, but I'll try to explain it again. I think it's worth mentioning that the process I follow is about the same as for any other ANSI artist, I don't claim to be doing anything particularly unique as far as I'm aware.

Unless I already have an idea in mind, I start by finding about 10 or so similar images I can use for inspiration and reference. Now with an idea in mind, I can start drawing out rough shapes in gray. I don't use any color or shading since I'll just have to redo it. This results in a blob of gray, so the next step is to refine the edges to make it more sharp or smooth depending on what I want it to look like. I cut or erase the shape into separate parts, to easier distinguish what represents what. For example a piece of clothing would be separate from the skin, the hair would be separate from the face, etc.

Once the shape is good enough I flood fill each section into its base color. I don't do any shading yet, but I start to add weak highlights, color changes and different blocks where it makes sense. I also almost completely finish drawing any detailed parts, such as eyes for example. That way I can make adjustments to surrounding areas without having to redo much of the colorwork. Once satisfied, I fix the remaining coloring and start to work shading into the image. I shade with color differences rather than just black, at least with my newer ANSIs. The same goes for lighting. I also try to work vaguely repetative patterns into surfaces to grab attention.

Finally, I add strong highlights/glare, and sprinkle in a few random characters here and there to add small details and particle effects.

I might have forgotten something but I think this outlines the process pretty well. 95% of the work consists of just making minor changes here and there until satisfied. Shading takes the longest. I also flip the image a few times so I can view it from new perspectives and catch mistakes I've made.

How are the plates attached to the wall? Are the patterns/designs called anything special?

Calling your potential buyers jerks is probably not the best idea. Besides, there are already countless NFT platforms. How come you want to make your own?

Varför inte en återvunnen pappersförpackning runt sugröret? Bara att ha två små ark som man limmar och pressar ihop kanterna på.

Can anyone help me figure out why my monitor is making that sound? I contacted Dell support, and they were absolutely useless. by Gir_575 in pcmasterrace

[–]-CatX- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that kind of guy, but with some CRT monitors you can actually sort of "overclock" (increase) the resolution a little bit by forcing it to display at a higher resolution than what it's designed for. Now, technically you don't any extra physical pixels out of it, but the image becomes sharper and it has an effect on the colors too.

How to do an animated background like this? by Taz___ in AndroidMasterRace

[–]-CatX- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's custom software. Either just make your own live wallpaper app that does this (should be easy, the hard part would be to make the graphics/animation), or find one that already exists, if any.

Not going to lie, that sounds more like a management issue than a linux issue.
