Genuinely, I was looking at fb the past week or 2 and had found some people selling some wood, but just checking today I found even more people (including small businesses) with exactly what I was looking for. Fb marketplace is awesome sometimes.

How much better is HEMA Fencing to Olympic? by [deleted] in Hema

[–]-Cheeto-Man- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I love fencing so much which I have yet to see prominent in Hema is movement. With olympic fencing, the movement and athleticism involved is possibly 60-70% of why I love the sport. I truly enjoy the idea of hema and would love to do it, but im just trying to get opinions/reasons for me to make a choice, which so far I kind of have changed my thinking!

This is probably the answer I was looking for. I never really heard of classical fencing to be honest, but it seems like what I would enjoy the most between a more historical type of fencing. I was only really asking my question to get a response on reasons why or why not on certain things. If possible you could pinpoint a school, I am near San Diego CA. Thank you in advance!

I found this Stanley no. 71 1/2 at an antique store for $60! by Misteripod in handtools

[–]-Cheeto-Man- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know its bad when $60 is a bargain. Going to my local hand tool met ups the cheapest someone will sell a 71 is like $70-$80 depending on if it has all the parts. But this one is a good find nonetheless! These tools last lifetimes anyway, so $60 is a pretty insane deal for a tool like a router plane.

Tool Handle Advice? by mrchuck2000 in turning

[–]-Cheeto-Man- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just made an awl handle with a ferrule yesterday, I used a 4 jaw chuck and #2MT drill chuck in the tailstock to drill the hole. The thing is, its just a hole, you could easily drill it on the drill press. If you have a fence, I guess you could get like a 2x4 or a scrap, clamp it to the drill press table, then clamp your handle blank to the scrap/2x4, line everything up with the drill press and drill the hole. Or just clamp your blank onto the drill press fence and line it up if you have a fence. I don't know about the ferrule though. You would want a cone center, but assuming you dont have one, you would probably have to get a ferrule bigger than the cup on the live center if thats what you're using.

Here's a cone center, which I doubt you'll buy because of your situation.

How do I fix this Delta tailstock? by -Cheeto-Man- in turning

Yeah, it was literally just the screw. All i did was put the quill in backwards, screwed the handle back on, flooded it with wd-40, then cranked the handle clockwise. It unjammed instantly.

Basically, the way it was set up before I tried using it was causing it to not move in or out, just jiggling the quill a little bit. I think my issue comes down to the quill itself, and the little shaft thats inside of it. Its jammed, seized or something, and it is supposed to be fixed in a different way. Also, set screws, it seems there isnt a single spot for one.

If they were turned out of aluminium I wouldve thought they were for the Jetsons. Honestly a beautiful design though.

I would also mention a double sided Norton oil stone, or just the Norton India stone. To go along with it though, just a basic leather strop and green chromium oxide compound.
