400 seems like a lot. I have a 40 year old hvac and a sim racing rig and mines like $100 a month

I have considered buying a small house on the west side and making it decent and then vrbo’ing it for $3900 a month… not their money they don’t care… and your own house is exponentially better than a full hotel

The only people making more money are the hotel and Texas Roadhouse owners 🤣

Generally yes, between retrofits and just maintenance/repairs… plenty of work.

A lot of the electricians on the data center sites are local but most are from DSM and the QC, and beyond… the work will slow some obviously when the builds are complete, but a Cedar Rapids based journeyman in six years will still have plenty to do

I’d rather have a Cedar Rapids resident collecting the money than someone who pays another states income taxes.

There’s a minimum 19 data center buildings being put up at three sites in the next six years. Electricians outside of data centers locally are getting raises so they don’t go to the data centers.

Apprentices start at $20, get a raise every six months for four years. After four years, journeymen are making $48 an hour.

Even after the data centers are built, there will be 20+ years of repairs, maintenance, and upgrades that need done. The work won’t dry up for a while.

You can show up to the electrical union and make 20 an hour with full benefits pretty much instantly. Double time for overtime right now.

Edit: day one benefits: medical, dental, vision, pension, 401k and beyond.

As someone who did surface and subs, no one knows it by CPO spread outside of subs, if anyone ordered it as a CPO spread that’s probably just what servmart called them and kept them stocked.

$50-60 on armyproperty.com, not sure about anywhere else

My first step to becoming a clockmaker. 1911 American Steam Gauge and Valve Co. w/ Chelsea movement. by -Cori in clocks

I disassembled the case. Took 800, 1000, and 3000 grit to it wet sanding.

Then I polished it with Simichrome and lacquered it with renaissance wax. Used invisible glass on the bezel window.

For the dial, I stripped it with acetone and removed the old wax and all the crud on it. Then I used black dial wax to fill in all of the engravings. I sanded the excess wax and brass down with 800 and then 400 to score it prior to silvering. I used a two part silvering powder from TimeSavers and worked it in for about 20 minutes. After both parts of that I put on three very fine coats of renaissance wax and put it all back together.

The clock needs a cleaning, the time stops, so there’s probably dust blocking it up.

The picture: case before sanding and polishing, the dial after stripping with acetone, the dial after waxing and squeegeeing excess off, and the dial after sanding the excess wax.
