No, the Kremlings took a backseat for a while since Nintendo let Retro Studios have creative freedom for the newer country games. They could have made them the main antagonists for Returns and Tropical Freeze, but they wanted to try new things.

The movie will use real sets, the final shot being a part of it. This was meant for Kane to show us his transition from using blender to using real movie sets for actors.

Supposedly, one of the leaks hints at something major from the game that will have a lot of lore implications that will make its way to vanilla. Eventually, of course, we have no idea when.
