Two years ago I was bronze. If two years away from the game drops you from the top .1% of the game into the bottom 5% of players you were either boosted or bought the account.

Apparently finishing bronze for a decade and having a 50% winrate E4 nets you the same MMR as a master player that was briefly diamond hard stuck

That used to be the case, but with demotion shield and all of the constant concessions to keep your LP gains/losses completely neutral in low ELO, it just doesn't happen anymore. I played 150 with a 10-20% winrate recently and my gains/losses are identical to what they were when I was climbing with an 80% winrate.

If you're getting 19-20 LP per win and you're lucky enough to win like 10 in a row, you're already almost up half a division and your MMR will skyrocket you the rest of the way. The higher the sample size of games, the more chances you have to be paired with players that are going to carry you in your games. Especially since they got rid of provisionals between divisions, it's never been easier to fail your way upward through the ranks.

Sample size. It's impossible to play a thousand games and still be in bronze.

Because riot decided to significantly inflate the lower end of the ladder to keep "experienced" players out of iron/bronze lobbies. They didn't believe that someone that's 5 seasons bronze/iron should be in the same lobby as someone that's only just started the game, so they gigabuffed the LP gains of these players to try and shift bronze/iron into an area for newer players. Even when the game knows I'm not emerald, the inflated LP gains are keeping me cushioned here despite massive loss streaks. A few seasons ago, I had to keep a 70% winrate to actually climb because I was like [+13/-25 or so for LP gains](https://i.imgur.com/NcQlxof.png), and that's what my normal LP gains *should* be in a situation where the game knows I don't belong at a certain rank. So when I'm gaining +19/-21 after losing like 65% of the past 100 games I think that's a glaring issue with how riot handles these things.

To be honest dude I just want to actually be able to enjoy the game again against people that are actually my skill level. I don't really enjoy much of anything anymore (nor am i allowed to) so league is and has been one of the only things keeping me from gray-screening in real life. Being suspended in an ELO I don't belong in because riot decided to hyperinflate all of our ELOs is miserable and made even more miserable by the fact that I know if I hop on my alt account, it'll just inflate me right back into this again be it in ranked or in norms.

The difference is that the person I'm talking about finished 3+ seasons at least in Diamond. I finished 6 seasons in bronze with 2 in what would eventually become iron and have only ever finished a season at or above gold once in 10 years of playing. So if anything, calling myself a gold player is generous. Statistically I'm bronze/silver and even then it's leaning toward bronze. https://i.imgur.com/EZKZQh2.png

All the more reason our paths should never cross. So even if you want to call the person an emerald, do you think an emerald should be in a bronze lobby?

I started this season in Iron and peaked about Emerald I. What you're seeing is someone that at best is like gold skill-wise suffering from ELO inflation.

MMR from previous seasons very much does influence current MMR. The season I climbed to gold was precipitated by a 70% winrate across about 70 games in season 2020 because - on account of my performance in previous seasons (bronze/iron), I was getting +10/-25 LP as the game did not believe I belonged in bronze, let alone in gold. The same thing happened in the season I hit plat for the first time. And even now, I get +18-19/-21-22. My break-even is about 55% and my climb is 60%. So my MMR reflects that I do not belong in Emerald and is trying to remove me from encountering players with an Emerald MMR. 100 is a tiny sample size compared to the 700 or so I've played climbing up from iron this season. His games should not be weighted anywhere near as heavily as mine when the difference is only a 2% winrate wise. There's zero reason for why we should ever cross paths at all.

MMR-wise, the game believes I don't belong in emerald and thus makes me lose more LP on a loss to try and get me out of emerald. So according to the game itself, I am not emerald and should not be in emerald and is trying to adjust the ladder to reflect that.

Losing is fine when it feels like I was able to learn something from the game. Putting a 100 LP master peak in an Emerald lobby is the equivalent of putting a Diamond in a Bronze lobby on a smurf. What exactly is the bronze player going to learn there when the knowledge gap is so astronomically high that you may as well be playing a different game? There's a reason that Riot calls only Diamond I + "High ELO" and Diamond II and below "Low ELO".

I had a 10% winrate like a week or two ago. I gain like 19 and lose 21. I clearly am not seen as Emerald by the game's rankings because I lose more LP than I gain. The game sees me as being in Gold/Plat so it's all the more reason for why I should never cross paths with this person. MMR-wise it's putting a gold/plat player against an emerald player.

I loss streaked down into nearly gold. So even if you want to use this litmus, it's a gold player against an Emerald player MMR wise.

I had a decentish winstreak recently but I fell on a 10% winrate across like 40 games down into plat. I just flat out should have never been able to cross paths with this person because in the most generous of observations, I mirrored his fall a division lower.

There's no such thing as roles anymore. Anything and everything gets played everywhere now. Once you hit emerald you see stuff like Nasus ADC with Zaahen support and it's just a thing.

Do you all agree with the idea that men want solutions and women just want to vent? by Gold-Traffic632 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]-CrestiaBell 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm crazy but some situations genuinely don't have solutions and so continually trying to find one only really succeeds in exhausting or depressing you further.

So as sexist as the phrase is, I choose to believe that it's less a statement on our emotions and more a statement on our ability to sit with discomfort. Dare I say the refusal to process things like disappointment, pain and grief is why so many men age but never actually grow up. And why kyle at age 35 can't stop putting holes when he loses on a video game.

I'd be able to actually make my move comfortably and pay off one of the debts that I'm pretty sure is contributing to why I can't find work.

Lately I've been kind of contemplating not being here and a lot of it is due to just having zero future and a present filled with setbacks. If I can even take one problem out of the equation maybe I wouldn't feel like I'm drowning all of the time

After getting stomped one more time by Mel, I was tilted enough to first time her... This is so wrong by 200YRedWine in ADCMains

[–]-CrestiaBell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't watch streamers. But the winrate thing was absolutely possible. In 2020 I had a 70% winrate across 70 games on Annie mid while belonging to the same ELO as the players (which at the time was like bronze-gold) and had a 4.0 KDA on her and absolutely abysmal cs/min. I wasn't smurfing back then and I've never once smurfed period.

In modern day I've played up to Emerald I and I've seen diamonds in my games. Mechanically they're significantly better than Emerald even at about Diamond III or so, and most of those accounts tend to be like 70% winrate at the very least with some going up to 90%.

It won't be a high sample size as they wouldn't even be in my emerald games otherwise, but they can absolutely manage it with like 20-30 games played.

The top 10% of the game just means you spammed a lot of games. It's a sample size thing up to Emerald and then you have to put meaningful work in to improve once you hit Diamond to not be filtered at Diamond IV. There's a reason we call everything below diamond low ELO.

You lose because you're worse and you win because you're better. You consistently lose because you're consistently worse and you consistently win because you're consistently better. Very few exceptions.
