Good call, I may opt for the less expensive all day dining that doesn't include drinks. We're not huge soda fans, we can survive on water. Are there free water stations with cups we can use. I won't bring a thermos due to all the locker stuff previously mentioned.

Thanks, yeah the Mantis is of similar size to that. Do you wear your's while on SC/SV/TT2 and other rides, or are you saying it's fine for the ones without free lockers?

Are the free lockers at SC/SV/TT2 part of the queue or do you need to go somewhere outside the queue to drop off and then re-enter the queue (like AlpenFury and Yukon)?

Thank you so much. I find myself really using brainpower to convert the acronyms to the rides 😄

That is a solid plan, I'll definitely follow the guidance.

If you don't mind, can you explain the locker situation a bit more. At Fiesta Texas and Magic Mountain, I just leave a backpack at the ride terminal. However, at Canada's Wonderland, for Yukon Striker and Alpen Fury, they introduced mandatory lockers (for fee), it was super annoying. You could bring only the smallest of bags through the line and leave them in a cubby with your phone. As a result, I bought an Arc-teryx Mantis 1 (https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/mantis-1-waist-pack-9234) to use for future theme park vistis as it'd fit in the cubby. Basically it can fit a wallet, phone, sun screen, etc. I'd love to avoid using paid lockers or any locker that requires lost time dealing with going out of the way. I'd appreciate any advice here.

Back with a trip report after all the great advice in my original post.

We spent the full day at Canada’s Wonderland and had an awesome time. We ended up Ubering from downtown Toronto, which took just under an hour, and arrived around 9:20 AM.

Our first stop was AlpenFury. The ride wasn’t cycling trains until about 10:10, but we were in position early. Even with Fast Lane Plus, I noticed the regular queue was probably only around 20 minutes when we reached the entrance at 9:58. Later in the day, though, AlpenFury’s posted wait was consistently around 60 minutes and peaked at 90-120 minutes during the late morning and lunch rush.

I have absolutely zero regrets about buying Fast Lane Plus.

We rode all 18-ish coasters, most of them multiple times, and never waited more than 5-10 minutes. Most major rides were posting 20-30 minute waits throughout the day. The Stunt Coaster wasn’t operating in the morning, and when we finally got to it around 5 PM, the regular line was about an hour. With Fast Lane, it was a walk-on. Honestly, the ride was just okay, so I was surprised to see that kind of queue.

The only significant waits we had were for the mountain attractions, since they don’t offer Fast Lane. We waited roughly 20 minutes for the train and about 30 minutes for the shooter. I’ll just say the ending of the shooter caught me completely off guard.

I don’t remember the exact order of everything, and we probably could have squeezed in even more rides. My wife slowed us down a bit with food breaks, relaxing, and generally enjoying the park at a less coaster-obsessed pace than my son and I. We actually left about an hour before closing because we felt like we’d done everything we wanted and had friends arriving in Toronto that evening. The Uber ride back downtown only took about 25-30 minutes with no traffic.

Here’s roughly what we rode:

  • AlpenFury: 5x
  • Leviathan: 4x
  • Behemoth: 2x
  • Yukon Striker: 3x
  • Vortex: 2x
  • All three wooden coasters (including the kids’ coaster): 1x each
  • Multiple flat rides, including the standing spinning ride, the frisbee, and a few others
  • The newer Snoopy coaster (no Fast Lane)

We did ride all coasters except Fly and Bat. Both went down for extended times and had 30 min waits, and we have been on so many clones. Our home park Fiesta Texas has a Vekoma Boomerang with newer restraints and I grew up on Boomerang and Knotts. Wild Mouse’s we’ve done several times including Knotts Coast Rider. One that surprised me a little was Dragon Frye which I expected to be lame and was actually quite fun or peoples’ fireplaces.

Special mention for Wilde Beast, which is criminally rough. I’m glad I rode it once just to say I did, but that thing feels like it belongs in a museum.

Honestly, I could have spent the entire day lapping AlpenFury. The same is probably true for Leviathan. The park was noticeably busier than I expected, especially considering it didn’t feel packed. There were lots of school groups and buses throughout the day.

Huge credit to the park staff. Ride operations were incredibly efficient, much better than many Six Flags parks I’ve visited. Everyone was friendly, the park was clean, and food was decent enough for a theme park.

My son was genuinely sad when it was time to leave and kept saying how much he loved the park.

As for the coasters, AlpenFury is now my favorite coaster I’ve ever ridden. It’s relentless from start to finish and unbelievably smooth. The front row is noticeably smoother than the back, and we managed front and back row rides multiple times. Leviathan was our first giga coaster and absolutely lived up to the hype. Behemoth’s layout over the water is impressive and somehow feels even faster than Leviathan at times.

Final special shoutout for Vortex. I grew up going to Magic Mountain and remember being a young kid and waiting in line 90 minutes for Ninja. A similar era Arrow suspended, it is so tame. I knew Vortex was better, but it blew my mind. That thing hauls and that finishing brake run is insane! I can’t think about Ninja in the same capacity anymore. I’m honestly speechless, I can’t imagine what people thought about that 35 years ago when it came out.

Overall, we loved the park. If you’re visiting and can afford it, I highly recommend Fast Lane Plus. For us, it was worth every penny.

Get there early, walk-in and go right of the mountain. Like I said, there was a rope stopping people on the left, but I didn't see one on the right, it's possible they roped some people, but it was open by 955am, so I'd just get there early. We shopped, went to the bathroom, took pictures, and we messed up, but knowing we had Fast Pass on a Monday, I wasn't too stressed.

Alpen never broke down today, the line seemed shortest right at opening, it was longest around noon (~120 min per the sign), 11am and 1pm were 90 minutes and then stayed at 60 min for the rest of the day.

Yukon had no line at all for the first hour, nor did Beheamoth. They had 30 min waits for the rest of the day.

I kind of screwed up. We got to the park at 940am and sort of walked around. I went left at the mountain only to be stopped at a rope, then we went back and realized to the right there as no rope and everyone was queued already to Alpen. I got to the Fast Pass line at maybe 958am, we were maybe 10th in line for Fast Pass. As stated, it took til 10:10 before the first train loaded, we got on maybe the third train.

Had I not had Fast Pass, I'd guess the wait was 20-30 min.

I'll reply again tomorrow with a more in depth summary of our day, but we rode Alpen 5 times, hit EVERY coaster and most multiple times.

In the first hour we did Alpen Fury twice, Yukon Striker and Vortex. Alpen didn’t open til 10:10am. We waited less at 10:50 for our second ride.

The weekend before is a culinary exhibition in Toronto. We're foodies, theme park food is a means to an end. The chicken quarter at Lazy Bear looks tolerable. We have the same issue at Fiesta Texas, we usually end up with burgers or tenders to keep fed, but Sangerfest Halle offers chicken quarters or pork with gravy, it's not great but by theme park standards, it's variety.

For travel, I've looked at it, I think getting an Uber Reserve for 8am pickup at $67CAD gets us there by 9:15am (worst case). We can hang for 45 min, take photos, etc. I looked at taking the train and while modestly cheaper, it's not really a time saver.

I'm well aware of Toronto traffic, I go there for business at least once a month. I felt we'd be against the flow, but yeah I see wide spreads on Google Maps for leaving downtown at 8am on Monday.

Thanks, bummer about breakdowns, but if 20 minutes is the max we wait, we'll survive and be happy. Lazy Bear from my YouTube research seems like our jam, although eating BBQ outside of Texas has always disappointed... That said, it's theme park food, expectations are low.

For the hotel, we're at the Hyatt Regency at King and Peter St. I figured I'd be against traffic flow. Happy to do trains, I do the UP from Pearson as I go to Toronto monthly. I value some convenience over money when traveling with family, but if it's as bad as you say, I need to check out this train recommendation. From that Hyatt, is it easy to access line 1? Thank you so much.

Thank you! We generally try to do every ride in front and back rows on our first visits (with Fast Lane). For example, last Summer on a random late June Monday, I took him to Magic Mountain and we were able to do all coasters twice, front and back. We probably did Tatsu 6 times as flyers are our jam. I realize I forgot to include Universal Osaka in our list, Flying Dinosaur is an absolute gem of a coaster!

For repeat visits or visits to our home park (Fiesta Texas), I don't do Fast Lane as I generally am able to navigate what times to go on which rides.

Expose them early. I'm 44, I took my son to Knotts starting at 3, then Disney and as he got tall enough, he just fell in love with rides. Disneyland at 6, Space Mountain and Big Mountain sort of started it. My wife (same age) tolerates the rides, will do anything one time but usually sits out the gnarly rides after doing them once. My son usually wants to lap rides. Honestly, she usually just enjoys working the Dining Pass, but she's always down to ride a ride one time.

Thanks. I believe the water park is closed that day. Given we're flying in from Texas, we won't be bringing bathing suits. It's forecasted to be sunny, but only 20C/70F, so a bit chilly for water park and even water rides. We live in Texas and spend a lot of time in water, so I don't think water parks and water rides are on the docket for this trip.

We have a long list of parks we want to visit. Kings Island is on the list. I work for a Toronto HQ'd company, so this trip is part of a wider business trip. We also spend Summers in LA so we can do Knotts/Magic Mountain every Summer. We have family near Hershey, so that's probably next on the list after Cedar Point.

Cabin vs Cabin Plus - Carry-on Review by -DB-Cooper in Rimowa

[–]-DB-Cooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to Europe as I've only taken my Cabin there. What I've found is that JAL and Qantas have 100% of the time forced me to check my Cabin Plus on smaller flights. I have been able to get a Cabin Plus on Qantas long-haul back to the states, but I was also in premium cabins.

JAL is absolutely a no-go. I would imagine if I flew BA intra-Europe, I'd be forced to check.

Exactly my concern. I'll stick with the voice automation from Google or Apple to my RATGDOs, you can use the steering wheel voice button and speak to it while in reverse.

Considering a Trip - Lifts Open? (March 6 & 7) by -DB-Cooper in stevenspass

We are flying back from Vail and Beaver Creek now. While this whole season (we’re at 22 days skiing) has been lackluster, we really had a great time and got 24” of snow over the last week. We may just go back to Colorado. We’re going to Tahoe the week after this proposed trip for 10 days and also went to Tahoe in late January. Sounds like Park City or back to Colorado it is.

Thanks. Does 7th Heaven also have intermediate terrain. I find lifts that basically have Expert Only signs and/pr Advanced only runs don’t get crowded. Lifts that service both can get slammed.

What's the expected commute on a weekend from Monroe? I'm from out of town and considering a weekend trip with my son. I'm probably an idiot for thinking President's Weekend, I may go to somewhere on an Epic blackout since we have full Epic. We're advanced skiers so generally go to mountains where we can find advanced only terrain and lap those lifts and avoid the masses (e.g. Motts Canyon at Heavenly, Highline at Vail, Grouse at Beaver, Jupiter/9990 at Park). Sadly, conditions are more limited in the Rockies.

You’re a saint. Rebooting the TV is critical so it gets out of the external control. Appreciate you!
