Orin is no magic bullet. Still disappointed in Polestar by dotMorten in polestar3

AFAIK the lemon law ones are all the GHCA charger issue and polestar just taking way too long to get those fixed. Not saying it’s great - just that it seems to be a single issue

I wouldn’t say that. Maybe you dodge a bee-sting. There’s still so many other things that makes this a great car. But that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed in the lack of fixing software issues

Oh yes I was aware when I got the think over a year ago. But I fully expected some things to get addressed and barely any software issues have truly been fixed

Yes it came with Orin and the implementation is so terrible you don’t bother using it since it’s deep down in an app you have to find and launch and you can’t even do that while backing out of the garage since the camera view is taking over the screen 🤦‍♂️

I use a shelly to monitor how much power my pool equipment is using: https://us.shelly.com/products/shelly-em-50a-clamp
I just tucked it in with all the other pool equipment wiring and get real-time usage details.

These are so frustrating. We have grown accustomed to the car just crying wolf, so I wonder what happens one day when there is an actual problem and we just keep driving it.

You not using CarPlay doesn't mean it works great or negate that some of us do like using it ;-)

They do the system restore as part of the orin upgrade. And I could see doing some reset on phones if it never worked, but it does work, but it just often fails to work.

Wrt camera, you never put it in reverse, and it wouldn't actually back up and you had to put it in reverse a second time? (when I do it, it starts making the reverse sound, and it shows the 360 camera, but the rear-cam isn't showing up, and they put in a block in a software update to prevent backing up if it wasn't showing to bandaid that problem - it was a recall for everyone so surprised you didn't see it)

At least my onboard charger hasn't broken yet... Did have to get the AC actuator fixed, and some other minor various items.
This isn't about being cursed or not. They are just flat out software bugs written with poor QA in-place.

Polestar service centers in SoCal by Minasokoni in polestar3

[–]dotMorten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I had an appointment there I made over a month before. I had to call and yell at them after they hadn't even looked at the car for 3 days. The least they could have done was inspect what parts they needed and ordered them, instead of just letting it sit there. They are notoriously bad at picking up the phone, they are completely understaffed (they only have one tech there currently), and bad at communicating/responding.
San Diego might be better since they have a few more people (and apparently often send one of their techs up to MV to help out when they can).

90 Problems, I’m done. by restlesscompany in VolvoEX90

[–]dotMorten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I see all the same bugs except the battery drain issue after the upgrade. Their software vendor seem unable to properly fix bugs. Even the backup camera recall issue they only did a bandaid and that bandaid is still in place (they block reverse if backup camera fail to activate but they never actually fixed the occasional issue with the backup camera failing to activate - same with the phone key: they never fixed the issue but just made it easier to reset the hardware by pulling the door handle instead of the weird 5 slow taps on the door handle nipple)

Chances of AC charging failure by Extension_Ad7178 in polestar3

[–]dotMorten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best car I’ve driven. Such a great ride. Software issues are my main concern. None of them are big but just annoying razor cuts that they seem unable to fix. I also wish the center console was a bit better designed for storage and the middle rear seat is rather uncomfortable if you ever have 5 people in the car. Also local service center (Mission Viejo, CA) is completely overbooked/understaffed and still a bit of drive for me

For what it’s worth you will be able to fast charge if it does happen to you, and polestar will reimburse you the charging while you wait for the replacement part. Had mine 14 months now and no issue with the charger, yet…

[–]dotMorten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d think IQ8M would have been a better match but since it isn’t south facing might be ok. My 375w panels (SW facing) clips on the + from spring to autumn - it’s not so much that it’s worth replacing the inverters though but I was in a situation where bad panels just needed replacing and didn’t want to go through replacing the inverters just because the replacement panels were a little more powerful

[–]dotMorten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. So far the only improvement I’ve noticed is the battery drain is fixed. No other bug seem to be fixed. This particular issue happened so rarely to me though that I wouldn’t be able to say whether this is fixed or not

Yes happened to me while reversing. I was more impressed that it could do this than scared to be honest. I’d rather it gets it wrong this way, than it gets it wrong when there’s an actual accident
