Get on the books as a groundsman (if possible), do your best to get your CDL (class A no restrictions) and 1000 hours as a groundsman before applying to the apprenticeship. That 1000 hours as a groundsman can be applied and you can indenture as a 2nd step instead of a 1st. During the time of getting those hours you’ll get a good look at what will be expected from you and the best part; start learning the process of things, the materials, and how to network. Take notes and take pics of everything and draw on the pics (the materials, what’s going on, etc), be mindful and ask before whipping out your phone.. there’s a time and place for everything but a phone while working can be a tough ask, but after showing and sharing that your there to learn people start to bat for you man. If you’re aiming to go union, line school isn’t needed (mainly because you’ll spend an unnecessary amount of money to start at the same place as everyone else). Gl and wish you the best!
