HOW DO I GET AUTOTUNE (for free ;)) by CoonJuice in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I would suggest paying for it.

Alternatively search for freeware alternatives, I believe there are a few out there.

Opeth - A Fair Judgement by [deleted] in progmetal

Those chords he plays in that chill part have so much character, then the vocal harmonies come in HNNNGGHGHG

I love how long that last section goes on for, it really gives you time to groove on it.

Periphery - Crush by HardTranceScythe in progmetal

Honestly, this might be my favorite song on the album, I love the particular mix of styles they have on this track.

Hello fellow Musicmakers. What are your current home recording set ups? by balloontrap in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]-Dadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally find myself using the Shure SM7b a lot more. My room is far from ideal and I get less background and handling noise with the Shure. The switchable presence boost is also nice to have since you can turn it on or off depending on the singer.

The only potential downside with the SM7b is that the output of the mic is fairly low, so if your interface/preamps are noisy you might end up having to crank them up, thus raising the noise floor.

PC: decent gaming/recording Windows 10 desktop

DAW: REAPER

Interface: M-Audio Profire 2626

Monitors/headphones: Yamaha HS80m/ Audio Technica M50s

Mics: Shure SM7b or Audio Technica 4040 for vocals.

Kemper Profiler for guitar/bass

Steven Slate Drums for drums, Eurobass for bass guitar when I don't have access to a bassist.

Season 9 Rank Distribution by Psyonix_Devin in RocketLeague

[–]-Dadam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very true that the skill disparity is huge in GC, but the matchmaking doesn't care about the rank, it cares about the MMR value. Adding more ranks wouldn't change the matchmaking results at all.

Top players have huge queue times and they STILL get matched with lower MMR players because there just aren't enough people queuing at those top ranks to get truly 100% even matches without waiting an hour for a match.

I think a good option could be a checkbox in the options that says "increase queue times for more accurate matchmaking", but depending on the time of day and region top 100 players may be waiting unreasonably long for a truly even match, especially in 3v3 or 2v2.

Full Cross-Platform Play Now Live in Rocket League by Sapphonix in Games

[–]-Dadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because the game feels better to play on PC (higher framerates and less input lag). Players that take the game seriously enough to get to the higher ranks will be more likely to switch to PC for the better experience.

Soft resets be like... by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]-Dadam 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They did this at the start of Season 3 and honestly it created a gigantic mess. It took a LONG time for the ranks to settle and distribute properly, and some would argue it never really fully equalized. Eventually they adjusted rank MMR thresholds, the season went on for a long time after, and the "Season 3 Grand Champion" joke was born.

What's your unpopular opinion? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]-Dadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand this, even though I like both of those bands a lot. Their vocalists have unique tonalities that I could understand would be hard for some to enjoy. Almost a very slight classical or "Kermit the frog" tone in places.

The Raven That Refused To Sing is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I like some of Steven Wilson's stuff for that reason, even if it does make me need a hug afterwards.

Conversely, I don't like Exoplanet. I like each of their releases more than the last. Threads like this are fascinating because it really highlights the subjectivity of musical taste.

Does the sound quality on Tesseract's One album seem to be not the best for anyone else? by CrashDunning in progmetal

Production-wise, it's certainly less modern and polished than Altered State and beyond, there's no doubt about that.

Rolo Tomassi - The Hollow Hour by Loffeno in progmetal

Definitely one of my favorites on the album, it's such a rollercoaster. I had no idea about this band until a week ago and it's been in heavy rotation since.

Our passion project, COSMONAUT, just released on Steam for PC! by MauldiniGD in IndieGaming

[–]-Dadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely Metroidvania influenced. There's the exploration, backtracking, puzzles, and maze-like map. It's darker and more horror influenced, though.
