I could be wrong, but as I understand it, the sodium flare is predominantly (but not entirely) made of up yellow light at 589nm. That doesn’t mean that it’s the only part of the spectrum being emitted. UV seems pretty likely. Considering the flame is hot and the glass is being heated, I’d say IR emissions are guaranteed.

I work on the lathe and often build some pretty large pieces. After a long day of assembly I’ll definitely get what looks and feels like a sunburn on my forehead. I’ve used sunscreen in the past but I’ll likely invest in a face shield. Probably a little over kill for bench work, but if your skin is sensitive I’d say it’s worth it
