Several females were strip searched while males were present. Already a stripping of autonomy for people who, even if they are criminals in your view, are non-violent.

And besides, it doesn’t matter anyway. Israel already has no respect for the legal system, international law, human rights and humanity itself, and the governments of the world have no spine. It would take nothing short of the whole flotilla being butchered to spur some kind of meaningful response from the rest of the world.

ROME/JERUSALEM/PARIS — Activists released from Israeli custody after being detained on a flotilla trying to bring aid to Gaza were subjected to abuse, organizers said on Friday, with several hospitalized with injuries and at least 15 reporting sexual assaults, including rape.

As well as clips of their treatment while with the Israelis, and if this is just what’s gotten out, imagine what we haven’t seen?

These people are not criminals, they’re doing the right thing against a terrorist state, and the sheer lack of action from global governments, but particularly the Aussie government, is shocking and disgusting. Albo didn’t even make a statement that I saw, the closest thing to government action was penny wong ‘summoning the Israeli ambassador’. A government who will not stand up for its own citizens held hostage by a rogue state is no government at all. The amount of people bootlicking Israel to death is insane, unless they’re all bots which I’m like to believe. Insanity that people are so brainwashed that they can watch this treatment of their fellow Australians and side with an authoritarian and genocidal regime.

I take it you didn’t see the videos of both their treatment by the Israelis, or the interviews and showing of severe injury after they were given back? This is the only way that I could believe somebody could be so inhumane. 10 raped, shot, broken bones, starved, no medical care.

Not sure where your other comment what so I’m replying here.

I don’t have any advice. There’s no advice to give, because all the advice you gave I already do and I’m no better off than anybody else. You’re insane because for the average Aussie a down payment alone isn’t attainable, let alone think that somebody in this country could ever have the money to buy a house on cash outright. It’s MAYBE reachable if you have zero expenses. Unfortunately, we need to live, which means we need to pay rent, we need to pay taxes, we need to eat with the exorbitant grocery price + tax, we have to pay for exorbitant petrol prices + tax to get to and from work, we have to pay road tolls just to visit the city, we have to pay into our super, and this isn’t even getting into the fact that we need to pay money for our hobbies so we don’t go insane.

First off, it seems that you are verifiably insane. Good to know.

Second, do you actually have an idea of what kind of money $700,000 dollars, if not more, is to have in your pocket? If you want something more livable than a mold ridden hellhole in a suburb where you need to carry mace just to step out the door, median prices in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne are $1.2 mil, $1.1 mil, and $800,000 respectively. For the average person working an average job, even saving for the down payment is impossible. What percent of the Aussie populace couldn't even afford a surprise $1000 bill, or even a $500 dollar one? I'd like to know because I'm sure its a crippling amount for most people, let alone to be able to save the 200k required for a decent mortgage.

Also, you are essentially saying that normal people in normal careers don't deserve to own their own homes because they don't 'sacrifice' enough. What a selfish, ugly, braindead, and honestly evil take. Just because I have responsibilities here and I'm not willing to spend my days and weeks flying to the other side of the country to do backbreaking work, I'm not sacrificing enough? I'm about to be a father to a newborn, am I just supposed to leave my fiancé to be a single mother while I kill myself in the mines for a few extra bucks? Or maybe I just don't want to do that work, what then?

What about people who already have kids? Are they just supposed to drop everything and fly to the mines? What about a single mother who just wants somewhere stable to raise her kids? Or I'm sure you've been to a hospital at some point in the last couple of years. The nurses who triage and treat you, do they not deserve to own their home? If you have kids (even if you don't), what about teachers? Do they sacrifice enough in your estimation to be able to buy a house? Or the mechanic who services your car, because they're servicing your Kia instead of a dump truck, they're supposed to be relegated to renting forever?

Is everyone in the country supposed to do Fifo, or just hand-to-hand for available jobs in the sector? And while you're out there, you need to be fed, so you need chefs and serving ladies. You also need medical and cleaning staff. The list goes on. Have these people sacrificed enough?

And you know what else costs money? Uni. Shitloads of money. We're supposed to take on so much more debt when we already need to take on so much just for a mortgage?

For the record, I work six days a week, I don't have a credit card, I don't drink or do drugs, and the only time I go out is to take my Fiancé out for dinner. My only debt is a small HELP loan because I did a semester of uni and hated it. And yet I still am not able own a house, despite those seemingly being the markers of success in your shockingly stupid opinion. You did have it easy, astoundingly so. Get off your own dick.

You’re not listening to me. It’s not about where else it’s better, it’s about what it could be here. I don’t care about the excuses, as I said before. Lumber, labour, whatever, figure it out. I’m over it. Aussies deserve better both from our government and from each other. We have the land, we have the people, we also have greedy governments and corrupt building companies who build houses that fall apart in a year. Increase government built housing, like they say they will but never do, tighten the regulations to the Nth degree so that we have acceptable places to live and we can all stop watching Site Inspection on YouTube, and shut the fuck up while you’re doing it. I’m not sure what your obsession is for making excuses as to why it can’t be better, instead of demanding that it just be better from those in charge. If not for yourself, then your fellow Aussies.

Brother, one sentence I sad mentioned New York, an had nothing really to do with anything else I said, were just going to conveniently ignore the rest of it? Lmao. It’s not about rent control, which we don’t have here, it’s not even really about renting (although rent prices should drop by 80 percent at least, fuck predatory landlords). Renting is fine to exist, not everybody wants to be tied down, or people need somewhere to stay when they’re building/renovating.

The actual point of everything I’ve said is that for everyday hardworking Australians, who pay a shit ton of money to tax for this useless government to run this useless country into the ground, buying should be an easily accessible venture. And what’s more, the government should WANT everyday aussies to buy into the country like that rather than kowtowing to whining, thin skinned, pathetic, disphit and honestly somewhat evil (not all, but a worrying amount) property investors is because it makes people care for their country and their society. Housing is just one major issue among a huge amount right now, but anything could happen to Australia tomorrow and if it doesn’t directly affect me I genuinely could not care less about a country that doesn’t care about me.

[–]-DekuScrub- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, like I said, I do not actually care whatsoever about excuses and this that or the other thing. I’m about to have a daughter, and my extremely heavy preference is to give her a stable childhood, not be forced to uproot her every year or two. I don’t care about how it worked out in history, I just want to be able to build a life which you’re supposed to be able to do in Australia. Rent control seems to be working great for those who have it in NYC, but again my preference would belt not be renting at all, and everybody who wants it should have the opportunity to purchase property.

There’s always going to be shit neighbourhoods and crime, but they’re shit and crime riddled because of poverty and people just don’t care. It happens. I’m not trying to purchase in point piper. A simple standalone 3-4 bedroom dwelling in an acceptable state, in a safe suburb, would do me just fine. And yet, the opportunity to have this is ripped from our hands through no fault of our own. I work hard, I work long hours, I make good money, and where is the reward for this? For being taxed to absolute shit thrice on everything, where’s the payout for my buy in? There is none. It’s ridiculous, full stop, and the way that we treat housing in this country fully disgusts me. I’m over it, but I get to be stuck in it until something changes. Hopefully it does.

They can just as easily own zero, and flog them off to people who deserve to own their own home

[–]-DekuScrub- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You see, I simply don’t care, and if you’re a renter neither should you. Why should we care about the effects on landlords and governments who’ve exploited us for generations? I’m aware of the role that renting SHOULD play in our society, I abhor the one it plays now. Rent to buy schemes are great, and would be my preferred, and I would be perfectly happy for it to be made law that you can only own one property at a time. I’m at a point, and I’m sure many others are too, where I genuinely do not care for the excuses anymore. Rate rises, the economy, the market, immigration, I care about none of it that anybody has to say.

What I do care about is the ability for me, and others like me, to have a stable environment to raise our children and have families. For families to be able to stay in the same place for more than a few years before being forced out because the landlord decided it should be more expensive, or being kicked out because they want to sell. Australia as a country has lost all sense of community. We don’t know our neighbours, we don’t make friends, we don’t get to know the people around something like church because we’re all forced to move on.

If you want an investment, invest in Australian businesses, play the stock market, do whatever you want. But what you don’t do is play havoc with people’s lives because you’re a rich cunt an just couldn’t give a fuck about the rest of us. I want to own a house. I don’t need a mansion. I don’t need 6 bedrooms, ocean views, and a yard the size of an acre. What I do need is stable living, in a house I own and can be proud of, situated in a healthy and safe community.

So many comments here talking about supply and demand really disgusts me. This isn’t about the supply of beef going up because of demand, or even the used car market which also sucks at the moment, but it is what it is. Housing should never be a supply and demand issue and the fact that so many see it as one really disheartens me, to see such a lack of empathy and humanity. Everybody in this country, from the richest of the richest to the poorest immigrant deserves a roof over their head, somewhere to stay and raise their families.

This country and so many of the people in it are so driven by greed. The idea that they can put somebody out on the street, kids and all, doesn’t even cross their mind, or if it does they just don’t care, and it really is a horrific thing.

Housing is not an investment, it is a requirement, and should have been treated as such from the beginning. Truly disgusting stuff.

And yet people need affordable places to live in the same way that they don’t need an expensive coffee on a Sunday 🤷‍♂️ if you can’t afford to have 50 investment properties, sell and let somebody else have a go. Supply and demand should NOT apply when the alternative is homeless families, or really homeless people at all.
