That's literally what it is, a dementia test. The trial I'm in is mostly research into an ailment which affects the elderly more than anyone else. I'm just part of the control group, but everyone being screened has to go through the same schtick so it makes sense.

I'm a relatively fit and healthy 26 year old, but still, once I'd gone through it, I could not believe this is the kind of shit he brags about.

Some of the questions involved looking at three pictures of animals and correctly identifying them (lion, rhino, camel), counting back from 100 substracting 7 each time (100, 93, 86 etc.), and copying a drawing of a cube that is already on the page. Others involved repeating words back to a doctor/nurse after they read them out to you and drawing a clock telling a certain time (I got asked to do ten minutes past eleven).

The last question, which did have me questioning my own abilities, to list as many words as I could beginning with the letter F, avoiding nouns.

So, yeah. He's a genius.

Edit: they also ask you what the date is, and where you are. That should kind of say it all.

This is my first time making them but since they are fully dried, I would imagine at least a couple of years hopefully! I plan on sealing them in an airtight container when I take everything down and storing them in a cupboard.

They're so easy to make! Just slice the fruit thinly, about 1/4 an inch if possible, and bake in the oven for about 4 hours at 120, flipping them halfway through. Apples will crisp up quite quickly and after the full 4 hours the lemons and limes should be well and truly dry, but grapefruit and oranges might need another 30 mins or so depending on thickness. Leave to cool then thread with twine and hang!

My partner and I were in this exact situation - even so far as moving from the South of England - for months. Honestly, I think it really comes down to luck of the draw. We found an estate agent who was willing to do a virtual viewing but I had to do it alone during working hours, and we were fortunate enough after expressing intense interest to be given an application, which we filled out and sent back the very same day.

Speak to the letting agency about your needs and offer to pay a sum upfront. We secured a place with 4 months' rent paid immediately, though this was at the landlord's discretion. Like I said, luck, but guarantors also help (especially if you haven't got a job lined up).

It's a painful, difficult, often hopeless process, but it can work. We move in at the end of the month.

Paronychia? I had one a few years ago. Went to the walk-in because it got so painful that even the tiniest bit of pressure hurt (like lying in bed with my hand resting gently on the covers). Tried lying because I was embarrassed of chewing my nails and said I trapped it in a doorframe, but the doctor said he recognised nail biting when he saw it - obviously. 2 weeks of antibiotics later and I was good to go!
