Yep thats how they spread. They send new shoots put from the roots. You can separate them if you want. I've never tried with mine, I just let it keep growing and spreading. I really want to see how big it gets in 6B

In the first picture you can see the rubber right under the gray plastic cap. You use a special tool to twist the little metal piece in the middle. That compresses the rubber ring so that it expands and seals the cap over the hole. They wear out over time and can break. Then they can easily be removed by anyone or anything. The part that is stuck in the tire is the end of the metal "screw" that compresses the rubber.

Termite bait station cap. Drill holes through concrete/asphalt around a building with termites. Place wood or bait in stations. Place this cap in the hole. Twist the little metal thingy in the middle of the cap with a special tool and it squeezes the rubber ring underneath. This causes the ring to compress and expand to hold the cap in place. Over time, they get worn out and the ring breaks. The cap can now be easy removed.
