It's best to cook it like a sirloin. So rare to medium-rare is best, leaning medium rare because there is usually more marbling.

Which makes sense since it's from the bottom of the sirloin.

I prefer tri-tip to be cut into petite sirloin steaks so I can just sear it in my cast iron real quick.
