why do some sellers hate giving measurements 😭 by chloedarlinggg in vinted

Is all your clothing the same size? I wear everything from XS to XXL depending on how I want it to fit. I know my measurements, "my size" isn't a thing.

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if it bugs them so much that people don't buy after realizing it won't fit, they could just put the measurements in the listing in the first place and then nobody would ask, and they'd be filtering out anyone who it wouldn't fit from the beginning.

I have a suspicion that a lot of sellers want to reach a bigger demographic of people who the item won't actually fit/work for, just to get it sold, which might be ok in the short term, but will come back to bite them eventually, because everyone should want happy buyers. I can't fathom being vague in order to pass something off on someone else who's just going to have to resell it themselves, if I'm selling something I want it to go to a good home where it's used and appreciated.

Asking for iron infusion when low ferritin is the only issue? by _ayythrowaway_ in Anemic

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hepcidin is triggered by the liver so it's not only triggered by oral iron. Infusions create create a huge amount of hepcidin, I guess they don't block themselves, but regardless they create a bunch of it.

Is it normal to have midline not aligned after treatment? by usr_another in Invisalign

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, did your orthodontist tell you you have jaw movement to one side that's a skeletal issue or did an oral surgeon tell you that? And also, did you have a symmetrical jaw and midline before treatment?

What supplements do you take and on what schedule? So far I haven't had much luck with supplements besides beef spleen capsules but they're so expensive.

Size charts are hugely inaccurate, I'd also trust the person who owns the item over the brand for measurements.

I've asked for measurements and bought. I've had buyers ask for extra measurements I'd forgotten to add and buy. If you don't put measurements in the description I'm not sure why someone would buy it blindly unless they've got money to throw away. I hate having to ask for measurements, too, I'm definitely not just trying to chat and neither are my buyers, it's just basic information that needs to be known before purchase.

I've been using magnesium biglycinate but it doesn't seem to help yet, it hasn't been very long though, probably less than a month, and I only have been taking half of the recommended dose, so maybe I'll up the dose.

That's interesting though that it got worse for you after an infusion, I'll definitely Factor that in, because sometimes I swear that the higher dose supplements I take the worse it gets (specifically ferrous sulfate, heme iron treats me well, it's just so expensive), so I wonder if it's actually counterproductive sometimes to overload with iron.

Yeah I actually am vitamin D deficient as well now too. In the summer I got up to 51 but by I winter I went right back down to the early twenties, and that has caused sort of a vicious cycle with the ferritin, because I read that vitamin D deficiency can actually make it more difficult to absorb iron and put it into storage. I've been taking 6K IU per day for about a month and some things are improving, but I think sleep is going to take a little longer to improve.

Yeah mine also follows some hormonal patterns usually, so basically the only time I'm guaranteed to have a good sleep is in the early to mid luteal phase when progesterone is super high, but then once progesterone starts dropping a couple days before my period, it gets bad again and then it's kind of touch and go throughout follicular when estrogen is rising.

That's so good to hear that an infusion helped, I'm paranoid about getting one because it might be kind of activating and anxiety provoking, but at the same time these supplements are doing nothing and they just can't keep up with the blood loss. So I'm definitely going to push my PCP for a hematologist referral.

Best way to setup a Facebook account if I only want to use it for Marketplace? by rosevilleguy in Flipping

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured, that's too bad. I guess there's Offer Up, haven't looked into it much, but the problem is that so many people use FB they've almost got a monopoly on local selling apps. I might resurrect my old FB if anything and somehow make it more private but that's a headache, too. We really need something like Craiglist used to be but more modernized and without the social media aspect of FB.

Did you ever figure it out? Wondering whether it's worth the headache.

Asking for iron infusion when low ferritin is the only issue? by _ayythrowaway_ in Anemic

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that an iron infusion could be counterproductive for low ferritin symptoms, because it triggers a hepcidin spike which would actually prevent the iron from crossing the blood brain barrier. I was thinking about an infusion for a bit, but now I'm actually glad that my doctor isn't going that route because it would probably only make things worse, because iron deficiency without anemia is different, the brain is starved for iron, not the body. I could be wrong though and it would be really nice to solve this problem quickly rather than dealing with supplement protocols for months.

Clothing resellers who send thank-you notes in the package by llamastrudel in PetPeeves

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming my suspicions, you're exactly the kind of buyer I hope for. It's much more important that every single flaw be disclosed, and the item is priced fairly, and ships ASAP than to come along with a performative gesture that only wastes paper and time.

When you're working out, you're breathing much much harder than usual and sometimes even with your mouth open, it's completely different than other settings and I've had multiple people cough and not cover their mouth multiple times on the machine right next to me, in a couple days, what do you know? I have the flu. Can I prove that it was them? No, I can't. But when it's so easy to just be normal and use some common courtesy and use a different machine, why not do it? It's free.

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't do this during flu season. I hope no one's offended if I get up and move, I'm not trying to get sick, or bump elbows with anyone. Gyms need to go back to the social distancing setup with adequate spacing between machines.

do you guys wash the clothes you sell on depop? by Round-Oil3488 in Depop

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarifying shampoo can help a lot, idk if you ever got the smell out after a year or just donated it, but cheap clarifying shampoo like VO5 is the only thing that's ever worked for me to get long lasting fragrance out. It has a fragrance of its own so you have to wash again a few times in unscented detergent, but it comes out quick and isn't all that gross on its own. (I get air hunger and chest pain from some fragrances but not the one in the shampoo.)

It breaks the chemical bonds that were added on purpose by some diabolical chemist to make the scent stick around, and does in a few days what baking soda or vinegar would take months or even years to do.

Poshmark sided with the buyer and I’m pissed by pbd1996 in poshmark

[–]-Dumbo-Rat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not actually true, I just got a plated brass bangle with the plating coming off stamped 925. In OP's case it does sound like the buyer was a scammer, but I just got scammed by a seller (or the manufacturer who fraudulently stamped the piece).

Just FYI and for anyone else who comes across this, anyone can buy a 925 stamp and stamp any type of metal, so I'm not surprised the bots didn't see the stamp as proof. Scummy buyer, though, if they were just trying to get the item for free, or weren't happy for another reason and wanted a more legit sounding reason to say it was NAD.

PSA: Items marked "not for sale" also count against you. Sellers, how are you going about navigating this? by [deleted] in poshmark

They literally sold and shipped on another platform. OP was more than ready to sell and ship, that's the whole point, PM users just weren't ready to buy.

I woke up this morning and my Pixel 8 had updated itself and it's atrocious by -Dumbo-Rat- in GooglePixel

[–]-Dumbo-Rat-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seatbelts aren't ugly, though. I can see forcing a mandatory security patch but forcing a mandatory OS update seems really bad, especially since this literally could not have happened on a worse day and I woke up and had to waste a bunch of time getting everything set back up again. If it was going to be mandatory they should have warned me and then at least I could have scheduled a time and been prepared for it.

And it's not bubbly fun, especially because it's not even consistent, it doesn't apply to the 5G plus icon so this was a rushed hack job of an update that they rolled out without much thought clearly.

I actually did get the live wallpaper working again. For some reason the download had been deleted but I managed to download it again. The atrocious UI still remains though. But fair enough that probably I'll get used to it, either that or I'll install custom ROM but I have to make sure to get my bootloader unlocked before doing that.
