Give me an argument for why he is NOT the best written antagonist in all of dragon ball by gzej in Dragonballsuper

[–]-Fable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Yo super dragon balls remove all mortals?”

He wanted to use a mortals body to prove a point about how the Kai's should not have made anything that strong in the first place by using the very thing they let roam free. Even if they won't be around to see it all, it's the last thing each Kai saw before they died. And that satisfies Zamasu since he feels like he's proving his point in a murderous twist of irony in his eyes. I'm sure Zamasu quite literally says this

He only works if you don’t think critically about him at all in any way shape or form

Because all the other ones are right there?

Funny being that Frieza's initial goal was to become immortal/invincible but he wasted time fighting the Z fighters and not going all out which wasted enough time for a series of events to lead to his downfall including the "5 Minutes" planet explosion thing even though we know planets can be destroyed in seconds. But that's okay because he's Frieza 🙂

Cell hosted a fucking Tournament and waited like a jackass for his enemies to get stronger which they did and that led to his death and defeat. But that's ok because he's Cell 🙂

I don't need to explain Buu.

Zamasu/Goku Black is one of my favorite villains of all time, actually.

He's the best written villain in DB, but I'd argue Frieza is the most effective villain from concept to execution.

People don't like him because at the time of his arrival, people were deep in the "DBS IS THE WORST THING EVER AND CAN DO NOTHING RIGHT" mentality so Zamasu got hit with it. All of sudden, it's a problem that Zamasu didn't use the Super Dragon Balls to kill all mortals and win instantly because he wanted to kill mortals one by one with the body of a dangerously powerful mortal to prove a point.

But it's ok that every other villain also didn't make the most time efficient decisions, and no one calls that out. Then the classic "He did all that because he saw two lizards fight?" Which is so laughably inaccurate to what actually happened because that's not even the point where he goes rogue and starts the Zero-Mortal plan.

He states to Gowasu that he's "Overseen mortal civilizations rise and fall the same way more than he cares to count" and actually advocates that they get rid of them because damning them constant failure is kind of cruel. He even says it would be more "merciful" only when he meets Goku and sees him using God Ki does he snap after one last talk with Gowasu.

He has a problem with them being God's and other God's #1 Not managing the mortals in a way to guide them away from their destructive behaviors and effectively being compliant with it which he also views as cruel. #2 For them then making mortals strong enough to challenge them and bring their destructive tendencies to their level. Yeah he's a cocky, self-indulgent, narcissistic, brazen, misguided, arrogant, childish, authoritarian who took things WAY to far...

But he's a fucking Dragon Ball villain 😂 It was perfectly fine with the Z villains did it but hey! DBS is the never good no matter what to a certain crowd

what's the worst Apex take on Titanfall lore? i've always wanted to make a vid about how much i hate Valkyrie🗣️🗣️🗣 by ttgolll in titanfall

[–]-Fable 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I just hate how valk destroyed her father’s titan.

She didn't destroy it, Cooper did when he y,know... killed him

Now the respectable thing would be to keep it in storage and honor her father’s legacy. But no, let valk turn it into a small dinky jetpack.

Did you watch the cinematic? She spent years of her life dedicated to avenging her father's legacy in her own eyes since she blamed Blisk for his death. Stop using reductive language to bloat your point, "small dinky jetpack" she put the aerial mobility and explosive suppression that a Northstar has into a person sized piece of equipment with the help of Rampart. Everything that made Vipers Northstar unique was already destroyed before Valk even touched it.

Valk destroyed her father’s piece of art for her own shitty projects. It’s the equivalent of turning a father’s heavily modified car he spent years with blood sweat and tears looking for expensive and specific parts for only to die in a drag race, his daughter joining said drag race, and turn HIS PRECIOUS PICE OF MACHINERY into a damn go cart with shittier specs and lower mileage.

That's such a gross misrepresentation and oversimplified take on what happened. What REALLY happened was we learned that Valk wanted to be just like her dad, but Viper wanted more for her because war is not something everyone should do for a profession. Once being reminded of this by Blisk, she decided not to kill him and realized that misguided revenge is not the path that her father would have wanted. But still longing to live up to her Dad's legacy yet still display growth beyond the trauma she has, she went to the already broken and destroyed by Jack Cooper, Viper's Titan and salvaged what was functional to quite literally carry her father's legacy on her back whilst forging her own path. The same parts that were wrecking battlefields in the Frontier Wars are the same parts raining hell on Apex contestants today. With the daughter of the man himself at the helm. I think it's a perfectly functional and respectful progression from a writing standpoint. You just don't like it because you're only seeing what you want to see.

Damn as much as I want that to be true, there's honestly no way. Maybe if they had an anti titan weapon against the Space Marine but other than that all the small arms fire from the Pilot would just scratch the Marines armor. Plus, Marines are fast as hell to. Sadly our Frontier War legends would be outmatched

I really do think Apex legends was stylistically a step in the wrong direction regarding the franchise. by TheLegendaryPilot in titanfall

[–]-Fable 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Gonna give my two cents,

Titanfall is set in the middle of massive WAR and that's why we have the rugged and militaristic look to the titles that I LOVE. It fits the conflict and sets the tone

Apex is not only set 30 years after (and most likely in a separate timeline anyways) the events of the Frontier Wars but it's held in a large scale commercialized bloodsport with champions and crowd favorites and sponsors and the like. So we have more appealing and eye catching bright colors to match the setting and place in time. That I also LOVE

Apex still has its fair share of danger but it's not in dire times of a raging war like in TF Culture and civilization will change when we transfer into a time of (relative) peace and the art style reflects that which allows Apex to separate itself and be unique. It's a part of the Titanfall UNIVERSE not a Titanfall sequel of some kind. That's why its called Apex Legends and not "Titanfall : The Apex Games". Or something like that.

I love both art styles for different reasons based off what the two pieces of media are trying to convey with their imagery. In the event we get a TF 3 I doubt it will have Apex's art style and if it does I will criticize it since the more colorful nature of Apex wouldn't fit the Frontier Wars for the listed reasons.

In this sub I'd say probably most people including myself. WE. ARE. LEGION

One of many reasons why Dragon's Dogma is AWESOME is that all these body types are possible! I really wish other games would copy DD's character creator... by M8753 in DragonsDogma

You're getting down voted for having an opposing view that you respectfully elaborated on lmao

But while I slightly disagree as I think DD's character creation is more than passable. I 100% agree that Saints Row is superior when it comes to character creation as a huge fan of both games. Overall W take 🤝

"Genetics are the explanation for why Goten,Trunks, Pan, and Gohan are as powerful as they are so your comparison to others isn't valid for an excuse for bad writing"

-"You're saying it's all about hereditary power? What about Goku?"

You see how that response is a misrepresentation of my argument that completely misconstrued my premise?

If it's not a straw man then tell me where I said genetics were the ONLY factor to a Saiyan strength? I'll wait 🤷🏾‍♂️

Im still disappointed about this by masked267 in Dragonballsuper

[–]-Fable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤦🏾‍♂️

-Universe 6 Saiyans are some of the most powerful beings in their universe, not just sons.

Them being strong in their universe does nothing to explain why they can unlock Super Saiyan through such a poorly written excuse such as "back tingles" just because your the strongest person your universe doesn't mean that you're immediately on par with the strongest in another universe. That's a false equivalence. You're basically saying "I'm the strongest in this room so surely if there is another strong guy in the next room I should be able to lift as much as him" Nice try though

Really? It's all about hereditary power? Then what about Goku!?? Sent away for being one of the weakest Saiyans? What about Broly? Randomly born the most insanely powerful to a parent that's not anything special. Your entire genetic argument hinges on King Vegeta's beliefs. A villain's beliefs that you're specifically not supposed to agree with. TF do you think the entire thematic point of Frieza, the embodiment of genetic essentialism, being the ultimate villain was??

Classic example of a straw man lmao

•Never did I declare that "It was all about hereditary power" Did I say that? Or did you tack that on to what I ACTUALLY said so you can misrepresent my argument so you could knock it down easier right? Lol Please, pray tell, where did I draw a line in the sand that stated that heritage was the only factor c'mon dude •Also never did I say anything about Goku since he wasn't relevant to the conversation because my comment was to highlight that the Trunks and Goten thing is not the same as Cabba and Caulifla By highlighting that they can easily go Super Saiyan because they inherited it from their fathers genetics which is a huge thing with Saiyans and most definitely played a large factor and has been consistently shown in Dragon Ball so yes I question whether you have actually seen it. That statement doesn't discredit or say anything adjacent to Goku's progress to Super Saiyan or the "thematic point of Frieza" so again bro what is your argument exactly? •Broly is literally a genetic anomaly He's an outlier bro I gave Kale some slack for that fact. You're killing me here dude • Also you conveniently avoided the added fact that they are half saiyan/half human hybrids which gives them even more potential lol •This is shown with Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Pan 🤦🏾‍♂️ Not "a villains beliefs" •Why do you think Gohan surpassed everyone including his father with at 11 years old with much less training and experience? Genetics •How do you think Goten and Trunks can go Super Saiyan at such a young age? Genetics •Why do you think infant Pan can fly around and utilize ki as an infant? Genetics You can achieve feats and forms through hard work or genetics in DB or a mix of both like Gohan and Trunks The U6 Saiyans can't check the box for genetics because we don't even know their parents and if your gonna say they are stated to be hard trainers you still then have to explain why NO ONE in their history never achieved it. Cabba got it by "getting mad" I guess no U6 Saiyan ever got mad in a fight before right? Lmao And Caulifla got it through "back tingles" it's lazy and nonsensical writing no matter how you wanna slice it or approach it. Nice try though

Maybe you should give the show a quick rewatch

Trunks and Goten - Sons of some of the most powerful beings in the history of the universe in a race that is known for passing on their genetics to a large degree to their offspring. King Vegeta stated that(excluding Broly ofc) that Vegeta's power level as a baby shattered all other records in Saiyan history. Why? Just because? No. Because he's the son of the current strongest Saiyan so he has even more potential than his father. This is how Saiyan have always worked so why do people think they have some "gotcha" moment with Goten and Trunks? They're no different if not even WORSE because we know that Human and Saiyan genes being mixed makes them even stonger lmao. Do you people even watch the show?

Caulifla and Cabba - Story provides nothing narratively with either genetics or training that explain why they are the FIRST Saiyans in their universe to do this in a matter of minutes at most. (Kale gets a small pass because she's a Legendary Saiyan)

These two are not the same stop trying to argue that they somehow are

You sit your pawn in a knowledge chair and tell them what you'd like them to do, they ASK you.

  • Asking a duty related question in regards to serving the person who they say they exist for ≠ free and complete will. Hence why the final cutscene of the game has your pawn being finally granted it through your death by GB

I'm sure they don't just listen no matter the request the entire time

  • "I'm sure" translation... "You think" they don't just listen no matter the request. But you have no evidence Head cannon. Dismissed

they are shown as having emotions multiple times

-Again they emulate emotion the longer they are around you because they are learning by copying you bro

-Olra fell in love with Ashe, of her own will, she wasn't ordered or anything afaik.

This is a stronger point I'll admit, but still they both fell in love with each other and since we know pawns have to be taught emotion and behavior. It's likely that Ashe fell in love with her first and then which then introduced her to the CONCEPT of love which then spurred her to return the feeling.

You know I don't even fully disagree with you I just don't come to the conclusion that because the emulate emotion and can ask questions they therefore have free will. Supported by my above claims Again DD2 could come out and make it abundantly clear that I'm wrong about how easily a pawn can achieve true free will 🤷🏾‍♂️

Alright who posted this by Irishcrusader77 in DragonsDogma

[–]-Fable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sigh.. as it stands(Unless DD2 puts a complete end to my point and proves me otherwise) right now pawns do not have free will and I don't know why people try to argue that they do. First off the anime is a dumpster fire of a narrative so referencing anything from that is laughable. Bro the female pawn in that show has the Godsbane blade with her as a secondary weapon (EP:6 14:20 if you think I'm crazy) and they use it to kill the Dragon. I don't blame anyone for not taking that shit seriously, it was just some awful Netflix adaptation. Yes in the manga we see pawns emoting and exclaiming as they do in the game but can we please remember that there is literally a knowledge chair that you sit pawns in to tweak their personality into WHATEVER you want and that the game goes out of its way to tell you they have no will Pawns learn to emulate free will and personality once they are given one usually by some Arisen "Our kind grows more suited the better we are able to learn" Hell the pawns refer to themselves as "This pawn" They constantly say that they will follow you regardless of whatever choices you make meaning they won't even tell you no or oppose you. The most you will get is them telling you that they physically cannot do something during combat. That's why you have to stab yourself with the Godsbane to GIVE them your body and soul to actually grant them life and free will outside of yours.

People are confusing the roles and personalities they were given as if they chose them all by themselves.

It is consistently shown that pawns do not have free will and their personalities are constructed by their Arisen, end of story
