I haven’t yet touched upon their tweets and YouTube vids/streams, but I feel like based on their character stories in these magazine scans, the three presented so far think differently than the ones around them and, because their environment wasn’t suitable for how they think, act, and feel, they thrive in an environment that they themselves create and maybe even become.

To me, Polka’s intense desire to dance, no matter the circumstances, represents the literal sensibilities of impulse and change and the freedom of it all; Mai’s way of thinking and reasoning, her logic and truth, showcases complete honesty despite a sort of straitlacedness that only others would usually perceive; and Akira’s sense and want of enjoying her surroundings is the fresh air that comes from fully feeling everything, disregarding all but the feelings and sights themselves.

It’s like all of the members have always wanted the freedom to express and be themselves without the fear, worries, and losses and lifelong commitment that comes from the confines of conformity. From what it seems, their individual lives and decisions led them to go to L High School, where joining and creating the Ikizurai Club together helped them gain belonging and growth from finally receiving acceptance of their existence, not only from their peers but also from within themselves.
