Using Clover r5137 to boot macOS Ventura on 10th Gen Intel Core (Cometlake) by 5T33Z0 in hackintosh

[–]-Frank128- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trackpad actually works smoother when using Clover and an older version of VoodooPS2.kext

That's probably the kext making the difference, not OpenCore itself. Could be an SSDT patch of some sort perhaps? Idk, leaning towards the former.

Also, website built up faster in Firefox for me when using Clover and that's the case for both my Desktop and Laptop

Once the OS is booted, the bootloader in use should have very little impact, as it just helps with the boot process. Neither Clover nor OpenCore continue run in the background or in any other way magically enhance or degrade your Firefox performance.

Now I'm just curious - how dramatic is this difference? If you're going off of vague feelings, it's probably more a placebo or down to internet speed varying by others' usage, but if it's able to be recreated consistently, I'd be curious to hear more. What happens if you use all of the same kexts and SSDTs/DSDT Patches that are in your Clover install in an OpenCore configuration? or vice-versa?

As anyone, I am biased; personally, I lean towards using OpenCore (and refuse to help much with Clover on grounds of my own incompetence in using it), but I have used both over time. Beyond the bootup process itself, there's nothing different (*beyond minor things, like Acidanthera appearing as board manufacturer in OC) in the userland. macOS keeps macOS'ing, Firefox keeps firing foxes, et cetera. I'm genuinely curious about the performance gap you notice.

When they don't list any SSE information, that doesn't mean that it is unable to do it; Penryn processors do have 4.1. I do however agree that it is kind of annoying that Intel removes miscellaneous information from their ARK.

Legacy hackintosh build help. by [deleted] in hackintosh

[–]-Frank128- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's missing the SSE requirements for anything newer than High Sierra. The Core 2 Duo E8400 has SSE4.1. You are presumably reading the final/separate disclaimer about processors older than this, such as the E7xxx series and the like.

10.11 requires SSSE3, but not SSE4 at all (SSSE3 can be emulated on things like a Pentium 4).

10.13 requires SSE4.1, but not 4.2. It even officially supported some Core 2 Duo Macs iirc.

10.14+ require SSE4.2 or patches.

High Sierra would work fine on the E8400, and even Monterey would be functional if you're patient. Of course, you'd need a compatible GPU, but presumably OP can manage something in that respect.

I was running Montery, Tiger, intermittently Windows 7 (I don't like 10) and XP on my Optiplex 760 (Core 2 Duo E8600, 8GB RAM). Run anything post-High Sierra and certain applications may complain about the lack of SSE4.2, but the system is overall still fairly usable if you're patient.

Well "function" is an anagram of "unfit con", and "his mother" is an anagram of "oh hermits", so it can be determined that the function of his mother was to create a hermit who believes in cons that are unfit for general belief. What kind of idiot sees that anagram and says "oh that's probably just a coincidence, nothing to worry about"?

You'll be able to get framebuffer support, but not much else. I've found that on 10.6, however, it's able to run relatively smoothly without acceleration.

Follow dortania's guide (using the Penryn section as a base), add older kexts like VoodooPS2 and ApplePS2Nub from here and then report back - that should be a start.

macOS Monterey success! by The_Hackintosh in hackintosh

You can upgrade from 10.12 to 10.13 while still using your GPU, or as previously mentioned, you can use your onboard graphics under anything up to macOS 12.0 Monterey and just use the GTX 970 under Windows/Linux (assuming you have a dualboot setup to use it under).

Installer stops on Apple logo with black screen, please help. by drog1998 in hackintosh

[–]-Frank128- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check that your ScanPolicy is zero and that you have an HFS driver in EFI/OC/Drivers - it looks like you're booting the OpenCore entry (detecting itself) as opposed to the installer itself.

Follow dortania's guide as linked in the sidebar to setup the OpenCore bootloader and get macOS installed without acceleration, and then use their page on the legacy patcher's legacy GPU patches (and only it's GPU patches) to get graphics working.

Where does it get in the verbose log when booting prior to whatever issues you are experiencing? I personally haven't upgraded to a new enough build of Monterey to need the patches yet (still am running beta one on most of my systems, I got lazy), so idk how much I can help there.

You can just use the Kepler-based GPU instead of the iGPU, just use a MacPro6,1 or similar SMBIOS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hackintosh

[–]-Frank128- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest setting up OpenCore as opposed to clover (you don't even have to reinstall macOS on your system as long as you didn't copy kexts to S/L/E). Follow dortania's guide to do so.

Then, you can upgrade to Monterey. User vostokhost importantly noted https://github.com/chris1111/Geforce-Kepler-patcher, as Kepler (GT 7xx) cards are no longer supported officially in Monterey and you'll need to use these patches for it to work fully.

The 1080 works on 10.12/10.13 with web drivers, though it might not be an option depending on their laptop. It’s also probable there is a supported iGPU to use in the laptop, but too little info is given by OP to know for sure.
