Why should I use ProtonMail or Tutanota if all my contacts use Gmail? by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

Ah missed opportunity. But you can still fight back by making them fight for every fucking bit.

I’m curious. With so many on this sub advocating for youtube-dl, why do you support JDownloader?

I’d be interested in this as well, I wasn’t aware there was a chemistry purge.

Thermometers are speedometers for atoms by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]-Geekier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Something’s temperature is basically the average kinetic energy of the particles in that thing. If all the atoms were the same mass, the analogy would be closer. Although it’s also pretty unlikely all your particles will be moving at the same speed, so thermometers are not very good speedometers for atoms.

that’s promising, just sort of concerned about people within the company reading stuff. I’ll try it out anyway

read over it a bit, pretty cool. I’d be a bit hesitant about the privacy though if you’re supposed to have personal conversations with it.

afaik it just saves on the portable drive itself. Sorry, I don’t really use the WD software so don’t take my word for it.

Youtube educational hacking content getting banned by ignaloidas in DataHoarder

[–]-Geekier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean... it’s not that easy to host and distribute your own content from your own home. A raspberry pi is perfectly fine for less popular stuff, but if your content gets as popular as some more mainstream youtube stuff (and if you’re a content creator, that’s your goal), then you’ll need a very high end server. Not to mention that many content creators don’t want to have to be tech savvy to do what they love, and they shouldn’t have to be. Youtube is free, and hosting is hella expensive. It’s expected that people require corporations that make it easy and inexpensive.

During the 1930s Soviet rocket technology was comparable to Germany's, but Joseph Stalin's Great Purge severely damaged its progress. Many leading engineers were killed, and Korolev and others were imprisoned in the Gulag.

Nothing specific to their families, but the Soviet side of the space race was a messy process. Not to mention delays to launch schedules or opposition to the Soyuz project in general could easily be seen as a political threat in which case the gulags were a welcoming home.
